It is nothing short of genuinely impressive how much money Microsoft makes, compared directly to how utterly shit to the core its software is to use.

"Built to fail" is a big problem. It's hard to find things built to last because our economy is so dependent on rampant consumerism. I want everything I own to be as long lasting as the can opener I bought 30+ years ago.

My solution was also to buy an older model that was repairable and just keep it forever. I'm not there yet, though.

Funny you should mention that. I'm getting tired of all the "coddling" features in newer cars. I don't want radar cruise control. I don't want lane control. I don't want hundreds of beeps and whistles in a quick drive to the store.

I guess I'm firmly in the anything-but-Intel crowd now.

So many good and reputable companies are ruining their reputations by incessant sales calls.

The Liberty Air Museum in Port Clinton, OH, had instructions for fly-in visits. I thought that was the coolest thing. It was a small museum but they had a pretty good diner.

Probably a sales guy just mad because no one would answer his cold calls.
