Working today on stories of medieval Loughborough.
Medieval Loughborough people would have kept livestock. Animals found wandering free would be taken to the local pound called the Pinfold until the owner came to collect them and paid a fine. Pinfold gate was the street that led to the Pinfold.

156. Nanpantan, SW of Loughborough. The name is thought to come from βPantainβ, Anglo-Saxon for enclosure. The churchβs War Memorial is a single block of Charnwood granite. Nearby Whittle Hill was known for βhoneβ stones, used to sharpen knives; its quarry, opened in 1837, shut in the early C20th.
