Let’s unite to scrap the surcharge and win a truly universal health service that does what the NHS was founded to do: treat people on the basis of need, not who they are, or their ability to pay.

We stand against the IHS and campaign for its abolition. So back in July, we were delighted to speak at UNISON North West’s Black Members meeting, raising awareness of the slow violence it exacts.

Already subject to exorbitant visa fees and denied access to public funds, people who are migrants are expected to find an additional £1,035 per year just to access our health service – violating its foundational principle of ‘free for all at the point of use’.

... an extortionate fee levied on the majority of UK Visa applicants.

This unjust, fixed charge places a disproportionate burden on those least able to pay, causing debt, destitution and despair.

Scrap the Surcharge! ❌

Borders in our health service take many forms:

▪️ The charging regulations, which see people charged up to 150% of the cost of secondary care
▪️ Identity checks
▪️ Data sharing between the NHS + Home Office
