Itβs not about Katy Perry heading to space. Itβs about how billionaires rebrand joyrides as βinspiration,β while real women in science lose jobs and visibility. Empowerment isnβt a press release, itβs opportunity, access, and recognition.

Entire Staff Is Fired at LIHEAP
The move threatens to paralyze the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps to offset high utility bills for roughly 6.2 million people nationwide.
The Trump administration abruptly laid off the entire staff running a $4.1 billion program to help low-income households across the U.S. pay their heating and cooling bills.

Friendly reminder: if you are waiting on something from a US-based scientist/reviewer/editor, please realize that we're barely making it through each day putting out non-stop fires and trying not to collapse into tears. We're trying our best, but things will take longer right now. Give grace.

We're not done yet | 18F
I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.
18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.
We made this website to tell our story:

Weeks of devastation, watching our scientific enterprise unravel.
Scientists/practitioners at NSF, NOAA, USGS, USDA, NPS, NIH, CDC... are tackling the greatest challenges, improving the lives of so many, protecting nature, and unraveling the world's mysteries.

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.
This isnβt about the budget. If it was, theyβd be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.
