If you learned about it in school or heard a lot about it, I suggest chapter 14, The Cover-Up, which I marked on every page. It showed me the Holodomor from outside Ukraine and how it was even possible in the world. Obviously political context of the last century gave me flashbacks to today’s time.

If you know little to nothing about Holodomor, I can suggest you reading Red Femine of @anneapplebaum.bsky.social who gives amazing historical context and describes all the atrocities committed by Soviet government.

Yesterday we lit a candle to commemorate all victims of Holodomors. As a Ukrainian I have this candle in a glass filled with grain as my everyday reminder. This candle is lit once a year for those who survived the famines, those who died, and those who were never born.

While looking for female interviewees who were young adults in 60s-80s in my hometown Zhytomyr, I was desperate and used Facebook! Who could’ve thought that people would be so active and supportive? 0 negativity, shares with comments like “interesting topic” and one woman found!

Today is the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. On this day we all write the Radio Dictation of National Unity. Even after my recent surgery, I was not an exception today!
It’s a privilege I can use Ukrainian language safely, unlike others in russian occupation and captivities

Kleine Anekdote zum Abschluss: Gestern kam ein Unbekannter bei uns im Haus vorbei und fragte in perfektem Schulukrainisch nach der nächsten Militäranlage in der Umgebung.
Russische Spione gibt es auch in den kleinsten Dörfern. Finden die irgendwas, wird das gesamte Dorf zum Ziel. #nosafezones

Ich befinde mich derzeit in einem Dorf 50km südlich von Ivano-Frankivsk, dem vermeintlich sicheren Westen der Ukraine.

I was thinking a while about my first post here. And what is better than beginning of my field work 🥳
I’m extremely grateful to #Ukrainian army that I can be here in the library in my hometown in Zhytomyr and work between air alerts and blackouts ✌🏻Hopefully, sharing some random findings here soon!
