I told her about watching the straightest show on Earth, The Bachelor, and Laskey introduced me to Gaylorism, the theory - since decried by_Taylor Swift's "associates" - that the pop star is secretly queer. I was intrigued, if skeptical. Wouldn't Swift be out if she were queer? Wasn't she powerful enough to weather any potential backlash? And anyway, wasn't she dating [insert famous yet mid dude] at the moment?

"He's her beard," Laksey suggested, introducing me to the reality that A-list actors and pop stars are still - even now, in this year of our trash fire 2025 -- not only closeted, but often curating public relationships, sometimes contractually, in order to maintain their cover. "Anyone who knows me knows that my number one obsession is closeted celebrities," she added. "So I figured, why not write a whole book about it?" Over decaf coffees, pancakes, and chilaquiles at Hollywood's Clark Street Diner, I spoke to Laskey about writing Cover Story, switching genres each book, and, of course, closeted A-listers
