Don't see any politicians talking about it these days, but this country desperately needs UBI.

Not enough liberals understand that anti-leftism helped get us in this political mess.

On the one hand, what they're able to do to children is the hardest to fathom, but on the other, it's the same force at the root of all ethnic cleansing; they see immigration as an infestation, they see immigrants as vermin

Doing things the "right" way, burning out and then realizing there is another option, coming back and winning it all with no fucks given? Yes please tell me that story forever.

Alysa Liu wins the Olympic gold medal for the United States
YouTube video by Olympics Alysa Liu wins the Olympic gold medal for the United States

some thoughts on Alysaโ€™s gold medal skate a day later

- this is maybe my absolute favorite skating performance ever? I know enough to understand itโ€™s not the most challenging technical skate but the sheer infectious joy is unmatched

- Iโ€™ve watched this maybe 15 times

- I mean holy shit look at it

The people smashing the Flocks are being cheered online in no uncertain terms.

Sovern, who said he dismantled the Flock cameras out of a concern for privacy, and in defense of the 4th amendment, has raised over $1k on GoFundme.

look if a Democrat wants me to be really fired up about voting for them, they will promulgate the Crimes Against Humanity Reparations Act which gives US citizenship to everyone targeted by the Trump administration.

History Lessons A college history professor must solve her superstar colleague's murder before she becomes the next target in this funny, romantic debut mystery, perfect for readers of Janet Evanovich, Kellye Garrett, and Ali Hazelwood. As a newly minted junior professor, Daphne Ouverture spends her days giving lectures on French colonialism, working on her next academic book, and going on atrocious dates. Her small world suits her just fine. Until Sam Taylor dies. The rising star of Harrison Universityโ€™s anthropology department was never one of Daphneโ€™s favorites, despite his popularity. But that doesnโ€™t prevent Samโ€™s killer from believing Daphne has something that belonged to Samโ€”something the killer will stop at nothing to get.Between grading papers and navigating her disastrous love life, Daphne embarks on her own investigation to find out what connects her to Samโ€™s murder. With the help of an alluring former-detective-turned-bookseller, she unravels a deadly cover-up on campus. This well-crafted, voice-driven mystery introduces an unforgettable crime fiction heroine.

I'll try to remember to post again when more people are on but I bet a bunch of #BookSky would be into this cozy mystery featuring an anti-colonial academic, her prison abolitionist colleague who is the victim, & a silver fox detective who quit being a cop to open a bookstore

Just a reminder as we look forward to this weekend...

We're going to win. There's a ton of hard work ahead of us & a lot more really bad days, but we've won before, with less resources & more capable foes. So we will win again.

Every reader of every age will have access to the books they need.

Don't congratulate John Roberts or the Supreme Court.

Congratulate Rick Woldenberg, the Chicago-area leader of Learning Resources, an educadtional toy company that had the courage to sue the president of the United States to save his family business.

As well as everyone else who stepped up.

I keep hearing that the Epstein files are so big if we held everyone accountable everything would collapse. And no it wouldnโ€™t. These rich guys donโ€™t do any actual work. They arenโ€™t actually important or useful they are just rich.

One wonders if people like haidt and lukianoff now understand they got played, if they were always in on the grift, or if they just blame the left for making the right react in this way.

Iโ€™m guessing the third.

If you wanted to vote with your $$ over this in many ways it is easier to FIND indie & small presses than it is to AVOID the bigs. How to do it?

1. Connect with an indie bookstore like @portersqbooks.bsky.social We'll hook you up.

2. Follow places like @lithub.com.web.brid.gy who cover them

The other this is a TON of sales of conservative books are through bulk purchases by PACs and Super PACs, not actual readers. (Not that pubs care)

Seems like a conflict of interest to publish book banners & it is IF you're operating from an ethical POV.

Publishers are capitalists- w obligations only to their shareholders to make as much profit as they can. So they're ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

Alito will sell more books than I do. So my books & I are expendable ๐Ÿ˜’

Extremely disappointed in my former employer.

Surprised? No, they were platforming these assholes while I was there, and I hated it then, too. Employee complaints about it (including mine) were met with variations on the weak "It's our job to publish all viewpoints and serve all readers" excuse.

The forthcoming book by Alito from Hachette reminds me of a drum I have been banging for a long time. As long as publishers continue to send $$ to people who attack our right to read, no matter what else they do, the right to read will be under attack

Itโ€™s been awful to have the worst people in the world in Minnesota all this time. And while it doesnโ€™t make up for all the suffering and destruction theyโ€™ve caused, Iโ€™m so grateful that theyโ€™ve been answered by the best people in the world.

Don't Ban Books in the United States Across the country, the freedom to read is under attack. Books are being removed from shelves, librarians are being targeted, and students are losing access to diverse, age-appropriate materials that

Here's a quick action you can take to support Right to Read legislation at the Federal level. Yes, we know, we know, but Congress changes and we can't get what we don't fight for

what I want people to feel, when they look at South Korea and the UK and Brazil holding elites accountable, is that it's possible here too. Elect true leaders this year and in 28, empowered - but also driven by us, the people - to hold the criminals accountable for their crimes. It's possible.

Of all the things we are doing in MN, this one is just beyond. Imagine being released from hell alone in the cold. And a total stranger has waited all night with a blanket just to be ready to hug you and carry you home. Every job we do is crucial, but this one is what restores humanity and dignity.
