WATCH: Trump, EPA's Zeldin announce end of scientific basis for U.S. action on climate change The Trump administration on Thursday revoked a scientific finding that long has been the central basis for U.S. action to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change, the most aggressiv...

Today, the Trump administration repealed the endangerment finding: the ruling that served as the basis for limits on tailpipe emissions and power plant rules. Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate changeβ€”all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money.

Aerial night-time view of Oxford city centre, with the Radcliffe Camera in the foreground lit in warm yellow light. Surrounding historic college buildings glow against the dark sky, with church spires and rooftops stretching into the distance.

A stunning view of Oxford at night 😍

I wonder how many people of all ethnicities that identify as being English, say so because they mistakenly think they have β€œEnglish” citizenship and an β€œEnglish” passport.

My guess that it would be a high proportion, which underlines why there is a strong education and social class element to this.

This issue goes to the core of why I always describe myself as British, even though I am white and grew up in England.

It’s such a more inclusive term than English.

05.02.2026 18:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Isn’t β€œfar right” a suitable definition enough?

And, are they actually wrong on that point, even if we comprehensively reject what they are trying to do with it?

05.02.2026 18:27 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No, as there’s no such thing as an English passport or even nationality in a nation state sense.

05.02.2026 17:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Well, with that one completely understandable exception.

English isn’t actually a nationality though in the formal sense, British is.

All people who consider themselves English, Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish are British whether they use the term or not, but not all those who would describe themselves as British are necessarily one of the former.

05.02.2026 12:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

British is our shared nationality as a family of nations, each with their own individual cultural heritage and identity.

It represents what we have in common, it can be acquired and it doesn’t exclude someone from also being English, Scottish, Jamaican, Zimbabwean or anything else for that matter.

On a related subject, just when will @oxfordcitycouncil.bsky.social , Government and the BBC start posting on BlueSky so the British public can stay up-to-date without having to trawl through the horrendous content that’s on X these days?

Great to hear that the Donnington Recreation Ground works are finally moving forward though, that’s a key missing link and has been a long time coming.

Fencing aside, the Boundary Brook path is in desperate need of street lighting, all the way from Marsh Road right through to Iffley Road.

It would be nice if @oxfordshirecc.bsky.social could repair the pelican crossing at Marsh Road that someone crashed into a couple of years ago also.

To solve this problem of their own making, @oxfordshirecc.bsky.social has implemented the congestion charge, yet again despite widespread opposition to the scheme in the consultation.

All of this creates the perfect backdrop for crazy conspiracy theories. 3/3

Public transport was decimated when LTN traffic was displaced onto the main bus routes, aggravating congestion and dividing our local communities.

Businesses have closed or moved as a result and many larger residential streets are still choked by tailbacks of stationary traffic at peak times.

The problem with Oxford is that @oxfordshirecc.bsky.social has consistently undermined trust in local democracy by blatantly disregarding official consultation results when implementing all of its schemes.
