FACTS:The United States is paying El Salvador $6 million a year to detain approximately 300 individuals deported from the U.S. in El Salvador’s Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), a maximum-security prison known for its harsh conditions. The payment equates to about $20,000 per detainee.
