Yes, but Obama signed off on the new base agreements and re-org including all the upgrades they got at that time. Former Colombian admins liked it, we the US, paid for all the upgrades to those bases.

Maybe Petro can prevent a bunch of US troops from going to those bases, but the personnel who are there will be able to use all the tools at their disposal for whatever it is we are going to do to Venezuela. Support, recon, etc. They will be used for as much of a tool as possible.

That’s literally what an ICE agent said when ICE, the FBI et al. raided an apartment in Chicago, including with a Blackhawk helicopter, separated children from their parents, and zip-tied them to each other.

These were always staging grounds for hurting the Colombians and their neighbors. Now we are going to see them fully used and it is enraging. But yes, I am the radical person with problematic ideas. Sure.

I and others literally protested outside the White House on this, including arrests, and over a year dealing with Congress. Everyone in both parties with a few exceptions (the usual people who still possess their soul), wanted this because they both are all in on the militarism money train.

I also say this with the clarity of someone who went with others in 2010 (yes, 15 years ago) to visit some of these mix-use US military bases in Colombia and they are every single problem you might imagine they are.
