What a photograph.

β€œNearly two dozen arrested as faith leaders protested outside a federal immigration facility near Chicago…”

Arrested large amounts of peaceful clergy face first on pavement is a pretty good sign you’re not the good guys in the story. www.reuters.com/legal/govern...

War as a moral metaphor is limited, limiting, and dangerous. By reducing the choices of action to β€œa war against” whatever-it-is, you divide the world into Me or Us (good) and Them or It (bad) and reduce the ethical complexity and moral richness of our life to Yes/No, On/Off.

A man: who, knowing his whole true self, cannot be used or possessed by any power other than himself, and whose life therefore is lived for life’s sake and never in the service of ruin, or pain, or hatred, or the dark.

Light is the left hand of darkness
and darkness the right hand of light.
Two are one, life and death,
lying together like lovers in kemmer,
like hands joined together,
like the end and the way.

Wow, that's amazing! I'm unfamiliar with the source material, but from this beautiful piece it seems like an interesting story.

Photograph of a crow in the grass, standing with one foot on the ground and the other on a small stick, as though laying claim to it.

Neat trick to remember how big crows are:
1. Picture a crow in your mind
2. Wrong. They're bigger than that

I still clearly remember the first time I saw this painting (in its beautiful alcove setting at the Gardner museum) and I'm still in love with it!

My name, and yours, and the true name of the sun, or a spring of water, or an unborn child, all are syllables of the great word that is very slowly spoken by the shining of the stars. There is no other power. No other name.

Downer is, most of the local workshops I've been at all interested in are weekday midday so I am generally working. If it's REALLY important I can take the day off work, but I try to save days for family and plein air painting trips. It would need to be someone on par Sargent, for me to take PTO lol

Thanks for the input I appreciate it! Makes me feel a little better for not having been to "art school." I think I could be more proactive in finding art workshops-I do plan to audit a SmArt school class this fall & take a full course later, but there's probably other workshops I can find as well.

Do you think you'd have found the right specific certs/classes to pursue without the network of people and background knowledge you received from attending an art school? I have regrets about never attending art school so I'm wondering how best to fill in some of my art education gaps.

At NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, Manhattan, they specialize in planetary climates β€” especially Earth's.

The White House decided not to renew their building lease β€” where they’ve been for 64 years.

NASA’s total funding is 0.3% of the Federal Budget. Just saying.

A dreamy, pastel-hued illustration of a long-haired woman tenderly holding a young child in her lap. They sit by a calm pink-hued body of water, surrounded by lush tropical plants and glowing flowers. Soft butterflies float through the air as the warm light of a full moon glows behind them, casting a magical and serene atmosphere.

Can you help me share this?

I would like to announce my first own artbook - part of the Artbox Series by @spiridude.com caurette editions
The cover features a reworked piece from 2018, one that we felt was perfect for this. And still… something about it didn’t feel like me anymore.

if I must suffer through this, at least look at this adorable animation my pal @mithraaa.bsky.social made for the book trailer for my graphic novel. also please considering pre-ordering said book, which I drew in Procreate before it got sucker-punched stores.comichub.com/fantom_comic...

Procreate users: do NOT update to the latest iPadOS 17.7.7. It will restore all your settings to default, then again every time you quit and reopen the program. Your preferences, palettes, and canvas settings will be deleted.

The audit will probably work best for me, then, this time around, but I'll keep a heads up for an evening session! Thanks Nonie!!☺️✨

Actually I might have to audit just because of the time frame overlapping with some work hours, but I'll look into it

That sounds awesome! Actually book illustration is more in line with my current goals-- I have several projects, but several are comics & graphic novels, as well as illustrated books on mythology and poems. What's the best way to get a notification on when the next class enrollment period starts?
