reportedly, there was a decent port of doom, but Carmack didn't like the affine textures and made them port the 32x version. I would really like to see a decent port of Doom.
On the other hand, saturn quake is pretty stunning.

I don't have much affection for the first gen of 3D consoles but I always found the saturn fascinating. Maybe I'll try developing a game for it sometime

Yeah you could do a lot with ANSI-from-hell graphics in a text adventure.

I think this setup would work great for CGA adventure games in general - loads of colours but also high-resolution text. Could probably get the graphics even nicer using Area5150/ANSI-from-hell type tricks

To be fair to claude this was somewhat out of its wheelhouse - an embedded project on an 8bit MCU using a somewhat-unusual C compiler. But there were many concepts it just wasn't grasping whatsoever, unrelated to the weird platform.

Thought I'd try copilot (claude 4.5)'s agentic stuff on an existing codebase. After two days of babysitting I was left with something that didn't really work and was full of memory leaks. Was able to implement the same feature myself with far fewer lines of code in about 3 hours.

Turns out the ratty old decomissioned phone extensions inside my rental house can carry gigabit ethernet. Guess we do have wired networking after all!
