The cover of a book called Susan Stranks The Big Ideas Book featuring Susan, a young, white, smiling woman with brown eyes and shiny black bowl cut, wearing wide legged blue jeans, green trainers, yellow and green striped socks and white dagger collar shirt under a fitted red yellow green and red jumper.
She is sitting in a cross legged position on a cream shag pile carpet with a length of tasseled red wool wrapped round her right hand, at her feet are lots of paper craft objects, very 1970s, clearly intended to be made by children and she looks friendly, as if inviting you to join her in making some of things surrounding her such as tissue flowers and little paper houses
If you buy Susan Stranks Big Ideas Book for thoughts on how to radically decentre the nuclear family & reimagine networks of care, or ideas on abolishing the carceral system, youβll be disappointed.
However, if youβre seeking heaps of things to make from leaves, wool & paper plates then jackpot baby

I've just finished reading The Box of Delights by Richard Marson. What an absolutely incredible book. An honest history of the peak of children's TV on the BBC. So many stories and interviews. I learnt so much.
I can't recommend it highly enough. A huge success from @tenacrebooks.bsky.social

The Man with the Flower in his Mouth - 30-line Baird TV
1967 30 line recreation of Pirandello's "The Man With The Flower in His Mouth", Originally produced on the 14th July 1930, this version was overseen by the original producer, Lance Sieveking. This version was sufficiently low-band to be captured on a stereo audio tape recorder, which astonishes me.

Coming as I do from a BBC comedy background, I have a shitload of suggestions for how to make great television programmes more cheaply (such as not budgeting them at $10m+ per episode) none of which anyone is interested in.
They donβt want cheaper TV. They want cheaper people.
