Oh, I definitely really love that movie.

I think it’s fun to compare and contrast the book and the movie and how they interact with the Thatcher and Bush eras, respectively. Also, things go boom and that’s always cool.

V FOR VENDETTA seems to mostly understand its source material. It’s just an incredibly American take on it (for better or for worse).
Good movie.

WATCHMEN basically recreates the book panel by panel but still completely misunderstands it at a cellular level.
Dumb movie.

We weren’t a magazine family, since those cost money, but I had #49 (Empire Anniversary), #50 and #54 (Indiana Jones 20th Anniversary Double Issue). Those poor issues got a lot of mileage. Wish I still had them somewhere.

Ten year old me used to read the pull quotes from Insider #50 into my tape recorder and pretend I had a Star Wars talk show with celebrity guests. It’s sad to see them go.

Also not particularly relevant symbolism for the Three of Swords but that’s just me on my nerd shit.

The appropriation of LOTR by the far right is so baffling to me. It’s like…you know you’re the nature-defiling, greed-fueled, authoritarian industrialist bad guys in ANY Tolkien book, right?

I guess I should say Fans™️ have always been this way. 80% of fans of things watch said thing, like it or don’t like it, talk to their friends at work about it and go on about their lives. They’re smarter than us. 😂

We just had less social media then. Fans have been crazy obnoxious for as long as fandom has existed. It just seems louder now that everyone has a Xwitter, YouTube channel and/or podcast network. 🤷
