As we move into โforeigners are cancelling Christmas in the name of political correctnessโ season itโs worth remember that Christmas was indeed once banned in England, by Christians and the man who enforced the ban has a statue in his honour outside the Houses of Parliament.

Haha, that's quite lovely! I like to think they all reflect the hospitals they belonged to but that might be setting too high an expectation

'If we assume that the annual rate of teaspoon loss per employee can be applied to the entire workforce of the city of Melbourne (about 2.5 million), an estimated 18 million teaspoons are going missing in Melbourne each year.'

Two of my authors were scheduled to deliver new drafts today. One then asked for (and received!) an extension so for now, I sit poised, with a cup of tea, ready - hopefully! - for a new draft. It feels like the perfect kind of cold, calm day for an edit...

I am starting to wonder whether there are more true crime podcasts or more novels that feature true crime podcasts. It definitely feels a lot of my subs now feature a true crime podcast.

Look at this beauty! Some of our most brilliant @bloomsburyraven.bsky.social authors have been joined by even more amazing authors to create a collection of stories inspired by the beasts that have stalked Britain. The most gorgeous gifty edition, whether that's a gift for you or someone else.

Ugh. How has my body forgotten the basic rule that you come back from the Frankfurt Book Fair with a cold, you don't go there with one.
Apologies in advance to everyone I will see with streaming eyes and endless sneezing.

Gleefully delighted that several of the reviews on Amazon for @spookypurcell.bsky.social's House of Splinters have said it's even creepier than The Silent Companions, mwahahaha ๐ป๐ป

The happiest of book birthdays to the wonderful @spookypurcell.bsky.social! Her SIXTH novel with us, the brilliant House of Splinters is out today and is absolutely the kind of fun horror (ie lots of great scares, will not make you scared to go out in the dark) this season is calling out for ๐ป

Yaaaaay! My beloved dark, unsettling, mad and truly wonderful The Unrecovered by @richardstrachan.bsky.social is the Scottish Book of the Month for @waterstones.bsky.social!
Thank you so so much booksellers for championing such a brilliant book.

Honestly quite disappointed that Nigel Slater hasn't written 'A Thousand Ferrets' as my blurry sleep deprived eyes just read. 100% would buy.

Wondering how much time of my life I could save if I didn't have to constantly check Amazon to make sure they haven't randomly removed one of our authors' editions for no good reason.

My twenty something publishing self, stuffing endless envelopes with bound proofs while sat on the floor of a office would probably have their mind blown if they knew this.

Today I am enormously grateful for the joys/privileges of my job: I'm currently going through the new draft of a fantastic debut novel I am publishing next summer and then this evening I'm going to a special screening of The Woman in Cabin 10, one of the most fun books I've published.

I also have become slightly obsessed with Long Story Short on Netflix. It's so funny! And also melancholy, and moving, and just really brilliant. Thoroughly recommended for anyone looking for some smart new tv.

I also read some great books while I was off for a few days - Selfish Girls (excellent on tangled sibling relationships); the new novel by Hayley Scrivenor, Girl Falling, and Abigail Dean's The Death of Us, which was very tough to read at times but incredibly moving.

Very much enjoying the Back to School vibes of September at Raven HQ - the leaves are falling, good clothes are on the horizon & we have some cracking books publishing this Autumn including a folk horror anthology, the new novel from @spookypurcell.bsky.social + Joey Batey's debut, It's Not a Cult.

(Oh and writing complaint emails about the fact a courier company left my brand new bike in a box outside my house in full view of everyone - didn't even close our gate - and unsurprisingly, it was stolen immediately. Thanks guys)
