Breakthrough which I think we disagree I believe could occur will not by present methods which are imo same End of Theory folly which has gripped Big Data world since 2010ish

Need revolution not simply different clothes which implies world making models which refine that which human eye misses

Again and they presently make chicken nuggets!

Almost anybody who has worked very hard but without correct mindset (you have recounted your formative experiences in music) knows silly amounts of time wasted trying to brute force. Wisdom says take a walk change perspective

It's interesting there are some messages that I agree with mostly, then I take a moment to consider the source & rethink the position

To extent view driven by SV hyperefficiency drive, I think do not take yourself too seriously "preference for primitive" is wise @musefoundry.bsky.social

Apparently some people are critical of Charles Taylor book on romanticism and wanted to know what you think because his description of modern condition since 1800 and manner in which Romantics articulated it as a condition of loss of commonplaces "publicly available language" but also relished"power

It's been a while since I interjected @musefoundry.bsky.social but this is a very inviting reference that connects directly to Hedgehog Review nostalgia and it's discontents essay

Very intriguing reference related to prior nostalgia essay I shared with you

Note also the author has answer for his core. Writing in the late 40's, he had no idea just how far humanity would drift into "measuring attitudes on toothpaste"

Lippman Mastery or Drift frequently cited as an evocative binary to end drift must have some grounding in social concreteness

Perhaps hasty to interpret that, along with Goethe, Dewey most formative to your thought @musefoundry.bsky.social as I know others, notably Langer, have been added to your philosophical play but looking from distance core seems to me Goethe/Dewey

Not my core Goethe/Marx/Rosa, but Dewey untravelled

I don't agree with every word of this post but this on choice between embodied experience and abstract hackery is on point. Note my use of "boundary" abstraction can be enlightening just don't conflate it.

Reminds me of Lippmann on "routineers"

The discussion of whether fully automate away is red herring

the real danger is that we've grown so accustomed to our Iron Cages that we desire them, capacities for contextual boundary work atrophied.

Yes, but I think with many many professionsโ€”software engineering is anotherโ€”there's quite a lot of work that really is assembling all the facts. LLM's can & should do this, Mollick's cointelligence.

@musefoundry.bsky.social I wonder if you have a view on this topic 1) will AI systems be able to automate away complicated but not complex work (90% of law, imo) 2) is it desirable if we could. Matrix of possible answers

I answered yes and yes but with massive caveat currently need a team of PhDs

And btw @musefoundry.bsky.social interesting little section in dusty reference with lots of historical rhyming to your claim "Silicon Valley is the least innovative culture in the world" increasing salience of nonprice competition obsession over process blinders over unrelated innovations

An interesting comment and reply @musefoundry.bsky.social. @nilsgilman.bsky.social wrote Jayne/D&G intellectual history post recently

Another rich essay where I'm hearing loud echoes to my waaaay too long 23 commentary on AI, which intuited firstness, secondness, thirdness idea w/o being aware of Peirce

Happy Father's Day BBQed some steaks made homemade potato salad for my dad!

It's a disturbing thought I recognize. Implication from Tooze, I think, is we could leave capitalism's shackles behind & culture may not be so easily revived. Can't uncrack an egg. Want to reread Cassirer

Could any of those songs I get listed not only get made today but also go thru filter and enter popular music as they did in the 80s?

15.06.2025 17:58 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Imo peak of music directly after 1983 and then slow decay thereafter. Early 2000s is very listenable for example but it's mostly for lost innocence reasons ~freedom to be imperfect not underlying beauty. A sample I like Just like Heaven, Blue Monday, This Must be the Place

15.06.2025 17:57 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The thought from Tooze which registered in Jan is a provocation were all card carrying members of Verso left here but I see your writing as answering that provocation in certain ways taking cybernetic transformation of human being polycrisis thru all layers of assemblage not simply ending capitalism

I wonder what the Tooze overthinking response to your recent string of commentaries would be. He cited "Christmas tree effect" of capitalist social theory i.e. myopia results when every polycrisis node is capitalist circulation the project to transfigure illegible forms to machine logics
