That’s me standing in front of Smith College after driving 3,000 miles across 14 states. I’ve only imagined this place. I only imagined what the drive would be like. Now I’m here. Surreal.

A lot of me changed on this pilgrimage. A lot of me is about to change again.

I have $1,800 left of my undergraduate loans. I’ve not missed a payment since 2008. In less than a month I’ll start Graduate school. The timing of this is wild.

I’ve been unemployed for about 3 months of my life since age 12. Those were the few months of transition from high school to college. Tomorrow I will be unemployed for the first time since 2004. 🤯

As a soon to be ex-pastor I totally understand dying the day after Easter.

He was forced into early retirement by DOGE & the stress of having to get all the right paperwork back to them on a short & inconsistent time line spiked his BP so much he had a stroke & fucking died.

Watching Chappell Roan spin her wheels about the decision to remain politically neutral while using drag aesthetics/culture is super disappointing. Especially now, when the lives of gender queer/trans folks are the target of the current admin. Her families ties to MAGA adds another layer. Sigh

When the Biden administration did evil things I made it clear I was not in support. Did I speak up about everything? No. But remaining completely silent, like all of the conservatives I know are doing right now speaks volumes. Being Christian and silent right now is especially egregious.

As someone who studies the language and writing of abusive parenting pedagogies I gotta say this tariff stuff feels like an enraged father hurting his children while telling them “I do this because I love you”.

I’m going to be in the Smith College botanical garden as much as possible this summer. I’m legitimately sad about not getting to tend my garden for the next three summers. This MSW is going to make me wild for my plants the summer of 2028.

I often wish I could have been sexually aware during my younger adult years…where I had a bit more energy and freedom of time ;) I think we will continually need to reframe sexuality in our older years, especially combating the narrative that we must lose our sexuality at a certain age!

I’m hoping my body will carry me for a long and pleasure filled life, but…I’m 39. Purity culture took three decades of my post-pubescent life away from me. I’m not taking my remaining time for granted. It’s time to get wild and weird.

I heard Lucy Dacus give her teenage self advice recently. She told her younger self “to do more gay shit.” Lucy is 10 yrs younger and already feeling what I feel now, that so many years were lost to sexual shame, especially those where experimentation was age appropriate. Here’s to 39.
