Over the weekend @benedictdouglas.bsky.social and I were lucky enough to run an amazing zine making session at the East Midlands NEU Activist Summer School

Throughout the day we reflected on our role in addressing the rise of the right & its corrosion of our democracies

The cultural artifacts in the game are based on real-world pieces in Western museums, such as the Ngadji drum, a wooden drum made by the Pokomo people in Kenya confiscated by the British in 1902 and has since remained in the British Museum.

I'll be reading this about universities today, looks really interesting: 'What flexibility exists is taken up with a focus on the latest emergency... rhythms of crisis-emergency-crisis suck life gradually out of the creativity and functionality of the sector'. So we end with a 'slow death'. (1/2)

This is so infuriating- something I did not ask for & do not want (for so many reasons). Academia.edu - which I don’t use, has generated an AI podcast of one of my (really old!!) papers with a fake voice. The equivalent of reading the abstract & assuming it gives you all you need to know.

Be very, very careful what you wish for. A key point made in the REF2014 History sub-panel final report was that 2* research often clearly played a vital enabling role in the creation of 4* research. Process, not just products, needs careful attention in any restriction of UK research volume.

Action on researcher career development must go beyond surface-level fixes Financial challenges across the sector are having lasting consequences for researchers’ careers. For Yolana Pringle, now is not the time to be ticking boxes

Dreaming spires won’t save UK universities that downplay impact Isolated domains of academic excellence must transform into dynamic enterprises integrated with local industry and community, says Aleks Subic

What impoverished HE thinking: 'as we navigate a post-Brexit landscape and an increasingly fractured global order, this disconnect between research excellence and commercial application at scale is no longer merely disappointing – it is deeply damaging for universities and the economy.' 1/2

Let's talk about these two department store owners: brother and sister Louis Bamberger and Caroline Bamberger Fuld. From Newark, New Jersey.

They are random people, basically. But in the late 1920s, with fascism taking over Europe, they made a choice that profoundly changed the world: 🧡
