Tonight's movie, A New Leaf (1971)
Matthau needs money. May has it. If he could just marry her and murder her...
A very enjoyable black comedy!
you ol' charmer, you!
I've found lots of new stuff released this year too, more than in other recent years actually. Looking forward to my trusted pals' top 10 lists for sure
I don't have spotify, but I do have something that tracks my plays. Top 5 played this year:
1. Ween
2. The Kinks
3. The Four Tops
4. Half Man Half Biscuit
5. The Muffs
California Man is a great shout. As you said though, it's just nice to chat about him
Right, I'm off to play CBC again, ha!
I didn't know he did anything else. I have this record, bought cos I'd heard Telephone Operator somewhere
04.12.2025 14:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0no one to blame but myself. I had Can't Stand Losing You in originally but so many picked it I dropped it for something else :)
04.12.2025 14:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I wasn't even aware of a couple of them, and had to rush off to YT! The Wood/Lynne one from 89 was aces.
Minor grumble, my favourite (Cherry Blossom Clinic Revisited) wasn't even listed, but Hello Susie's there which almost makes up for it :)

Exactly. It might not be high art, but I watched The In-Laws (the original, Falk/Arkin) a couple of nights ago for the first time and had the greatest time. Old me would have probably preferred some earnest kitchen sink drama :)
02.12.2025 21:49 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Gere's an arse in the remake too, but in a different way - more cocky.
Gotta be honest, as I'm now crazy old, I need cheering up in my movies. I watched some Cassavetes recently and, although they're brilliantly made, they're just not what I'm looking for. I would've loved them 20 years ago.
You're giving nothing away by going alphabetical, Chris :)
I saw them very early on, in a little university bar in Wales. Prob only about 150 or so there.
Good choice for a 15. I could do one on them easily. If Leave the Biker isn't here we shall have words...
Banacek. Season 1 complete, moving on to Season 2 now. I wouldn't mind wiping the self-satisfied look off his face, but I'm really enjoying this. I haven't watched for probably 50 years.

01.12.2025 12:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0That'd be something for sure - would you count duets where the other half was a band? I'm thinking Supersuckers here :)

Any excuse to play a song that's in my all-time favourites list.

Today's movie, The In-Laws 1979.
I laughed loads at this one. Falk and Arkin are just PERFECT.
there's a lot to unpick here...!

Even just watching old YT videos of WPoD is stunning. As I say, doing stuff like Don't Touch Me There with a girl 30 years younger than Fee was just silly, and the band pretty much mailed it in all show. Still doesn't diminish this song's greatness though.
28.11.2025 23:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would have loved to have seen them in their heyday (I won't say prime time, muhaha)
The version I saw in the late 1990s were embarrassingly awful.
