President's Message - March 2025 - Alberta College of Family Physicians Read the message of Dr. Melanie Hnatiuk, the ACFP's newly installed President, addressed to all members.

The government is already spending approximately $3 billion/year on primary care but doing so in a fragmented way that is neither delivering optimal care nor offering financial efficiency.

Our recent analysis shows that, realistically, the government needs to invest a minimum of $3.2 billion annually — $673 per Albertan — to fully fund team-based primary care. 3/4

ACFP President Dr. Melanie Hnatiuk: “Family doctors cannot continue to deliver care without a well-resourced and supported team…The government must be clear-sighted about the investments needed to build a system that delivers for all Albertans.” 2/4

Opinion: Province needs to make realistic investments in team-based primary health care Team-based primary care offers benefits for patients, health care providers and the health care system overall, but it needs to be properly funded to deliver results.

When we invest in team-based primary care everyone wins. Albertans gain timely access to a medical home and some of the challenges our health system faces are alleviated too.

Celebrating 70 Years of the Family Medicine Summit - Alberta College of Family Physicians On March 7 to 9, the 2025 Family Medicine Summit in Banff was a milestone year like no other as the ACFP celebrated 70 years of sharing best practices and building camaraderie among family physicians....

With 60 days down since the 70th #ACFPSummit, that leaves less than a month for this year's attendees to access the Summit sessions. Session recordings are available through the Attendee Hub until June 1st.
