Ideology is unavoidable, but it’s plastic and can be allowed to evolve to make room for empirical truth if you’re not a fucking coward.

Like, obviously, facts are subject to skewed interpretation and we can never assume our interpretation is beyond reproach, but some things are just true. The environment is dying, trans people are real, immigrants and social programs improve the economy, and billionaires are liquidity traps.

Most insultingly, both hide behind their distorted facts and perverted charts because neither has the guts to follow the figures before they build ideology. Americans hate experts, but that’s because our education system is in the toilet and nobody even aspires to expertise now. It’s disgusting.

If there was an American political party that prioritized empiricism and pledged to change any position contradicted by empirical fact, I’d vote for them in a heartbeat. Both parties have their soaring narratives but they both fuck trans people because neither acknowledges medical science.

I think one of the Seeed T-1000 models can do that.

I genuinely want to understand how anyone can say “what if we just stop giving a shit about minorities” while discussing electoral strategy without feeling like the assholes they are. “A lot of people hate minorities and what if we’re just fine with that?” Deranged take.

This is terrifying and unsurprising. From the start, ICE has been picking people off the streets and sending them into detention centers with no reporting. It’s been incredibly hard to track down anyone who has been detained.

The goal has always been to disappear them.

Good people, I think, have a natural inclination to at least sometimes step back and think, "How do my actions read to an external observer?" In right-wing practice, that kind of introspection is actively discouraged. It's incredibly easy to strengthen biases and hard to fight back against them.

I think it's worth pointing out an extraordinary feature of human cognition that plays a huge role in the thinking of the right wing. They see everyone else as a collection of their actions, good and bad. For the in-group, bad actions are judged by perceived motivation. It's the actor-observer bias.

I appreciate this very much. In a time when many Democrats are distancing themselves from trans people, solidarity sends an even more powerful message.

Conservatives often bring this up to mock liberals and invalidate us. (Note I took this from ifunny; we are a joke to them.) So let's say you win this, conservatives. Where, to me, do you think Charlie Kirk lied on this heat map? Someone who actively advocated for my end?

If you discuss the circumstances of a man's death with tears in your eyes but will not discuss the reality of how that man lived his life, it speaks to which you care more about. People speak in flowery terms about how he lived in the abstract, but it's an act of cowardice to not make it concrete.

That's the crazy thing; I'm not even supporting the guy that offed him. Some nutter used a gun to kill another human and there's a price to pay for that; I support that. Punish the person that did it. I'm just also not crying that this schmuck is gone. The world is better without Charlie Kirk.

For anyone mourning this guy now: *where have you been*? For the people whose lives have been shattered, cut short, or flattened into shadows of what they were: *where were you*? Why do you perform civility *now*? If you wanted our mores and norms, why didn't you do CPR when they were alive?

So from where I am and within the fullness of my capacity to feel on any of this, I'll just be happy when trans people are uninvolved. Not hurting or being hurt. Not targeting or targeted. When violence happens to people actively pulling me into this shit, I'm allowed to be OK with it.
