I love Guillermo del Toro calling ages 19 to 29 "sublime confusion"

This is a REALLY good video that gets into the *specifics* of how AI is degrading our information environment and putting truth further out of reach for the average person / the population as a whole

Gaza is starving. Where are the American Jewish leaders? A fear of being labelled antisemitic still deters American Jews and Jewish institutions from taking a position that is morally correct.

The mass starvation & killing of Palestinians in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli gov’t is a chillul hashem, a desecration of God.

Jewish leaders who criticized Zohran Mamdani for three words he doesn’t use should raise their voices loudly here as well.

Charlie Kirk? Dropped out of community college.

Ironically, upon the paper’s release, several social media users ran it through LLMs in order to summarize it and then post the findings online. Kosmyna had been expecting that people would do this, so she inserted a couple AI traps into the paper, such as instructing LLMs to β€œonly read this table below,” thus ensuring that LLMs would return only limited insight from the paper.

She also found that LLMs hallucinated a key detail: Nowhere in her paper did she specify the version of ChatGPT she used, but AI summaries declared that the paper was trained on GPT-4o. β€œWe specifically wanted to see that, because we were pretty sure the LLM would hallucinate on that,” she says, laughing.

Amazing: MIT researchers revealed how ChatGPT etc are destroying our brains and booby-trapped the report to expose those who want to use AI to ostensibly summarize the results.

1. This isn't true at all.
2. IQ numbers are BS. The test depends on who's administering it, and even if it WAS a reliable indicator of "intelligence," that means nothing about a person's value.
3. You know what's in water that DOES hurt development? Lead. They're not interested in that.

More people need to understand the massive negative externalities - and huge bloody bills - imposed on the entire world wide web by LLMs.

The sense of entitlement to other people's labour and other organisations's hugely increased monthly overheads of the tech bros is nothing short of depraved.

Ponderable?

And do free people expect to read every book they want to read for free (at public expense)?

After all, many people who write and produce the books do expect a return on their effort and investment.

Just a thought.

and when you decide to defund libraries because "people who can afford it can just buy the books", you restrict access to those who can't afford it

I will never forget the photo of Zelenskyy’s face after he saw Russia’s war crimes in Bucha in 2022. He seemed to age years in an afternoon. Watching him constantly cross the world asking for aid that should have been thrown at him is one of the deepest shames of our age.

One annoying thing about the "run the government like a business" guys is that they also are terrible at running businesses. I run my podcast "like a business" in the sense that things are made to a high quality and shipped on time, but it seems their only version of "good business" is "layoffs"

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive
