My gay, 50ish Spanish teacher played "Lola" for us in class one day (circa 1990) after he learned over the weekend before the word play in the song. A friend pointed out to him how "Lo" and "La" are the Spanish him/her articles. His mind was blown.

My city put in angled street parking spaces a block from the theater/arena complex and mandated backing in to them. At least they were angled going the right direction. However, It lasted maybe six months before they changed their mind and had to come out and restripe the parking spots.

Nightswimming, because hopefully everyone finds someone who looks at them the way Michael Stipe looks at Mike Mills.

At the entrance of the Oval Office, where the president and his visitors can see it every day, hangs the mug shot taken of a glowering Donald J. Trump after being arrested and charged with racketeering to overthrow an election.
A couple of hundred feet away, in the grand foyer of the White House state floor where the official portraits of past presidents in solemn poses are on display, hangs a painting of a defiant Mr. Trump, blood splattered on his face by would-be assassin’s bullet, angrily pumping his fist and shouting, β€œFight! Fight!”
These icons of Mr. Trump’s journey back to power loom large as he completes the first 100 days of his second presidency. There is a reason he has placed these images in positions of prominence. They reflect the crucibles of a man who escaped existential threats of prison and death in his quest for vindication and vengeance. They fuel his self-authored narrative as a man of destiny, saved by God to save America.

And so the self-described man of destiny pushes forward without as much resistance, pushing to rid the country of millions of immigrants, pushing to eradicate β€œwoke culture,” pushing to upend the global economy, pushing to punish those standing in his way, pushing to expand America’s borders and unravel its economic and security alliances. Pushing, pushing, pushing.
He looks up most days and sees that mug shot and maybe passes that painting with the blood on his face and he knows what could have been. By all accounts, for good or ill, he has changed the country in just 100 days. Under the Constitution, he has 1,361 more to go.

I don't know that I could think of a better illustration of a journalist following the authoritarian's playbook than this description of Trump's first 100 days. I'm not just criticizing the journalism, here. I'm saying journalists are playing the role Trump wants them to play.

they’re doing that thing where a new coach discovers his NFL team has a ping-pong table in the locker room and orders it removed to build a winning culture focused on football and all the players resent it and he gets fired after 3 sub-.500 seasons, but for The Army

Legacy media needs to start calling all <waves hand> this, what it is. Treason. Every thing done since Jan. 20 has done nothing but given aid to our enemies.

I'd go a step further and say it's not just fascist, but treasonous. Every action he takes, whether on the economy or foreign policy, "gives aid and comfort to our enemies."

Blondie was one of those groups that I wouldn't turn off, but I wouldn't necessarily seek out whole LPs, until I saw them as a twinbill with Elvis Costello in 2019. The biggest reason was Clem, just a whirling dervish behind the kit on every song. This one hurts.
