08.11.2025 04:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The kind of frustratingly vague, clunky but intriguingly energetic method vs. the clean-lined, beginning middle and end rhythm that TV just mastered. It's just a different being, and that's fine, but I will admit I do struggle with it a bit
08.11.2025 04:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I have to say, after watching the new Hazbin Hotel episodes, and then watching the new Joe Cappa show Haha You Clowns, I think, beyond anything else, they're just fundamentally two different understandings of how storytelling works

31.10.2025 17:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thinking the Democrats are solely focused on healthcare despite every other awful thing happening right now only because a healthcare insurance CEO was shot and killed. That's it.
31.10.2025 17:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And as you imply it's such an incredible history and a fascinating sound to track through history (and how open it was to embrace other music influences so readily.) What you call soul-folk I've been calling Black Rock, but yes - it's truly amazing stuff.
29.10.2025 23:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Instant follow. I stumbled into listening to a lot of Black artists from the early 70s and had been fascinated by how great and under-explored it is, as well as tricky it is to define it to a genre as well. Isley Bros. in particular were amazing to discover how truly diverse they were!
29.10.2025 23:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Absolutely love Candi Stanton's cover of Listen to the Music by the Doobie Brothers, one of the sickest baselines I've ever heard

One year later in 1977, one of my favorite, underrated bands New Birth dropped this song that almost made me trip while jogging because it sounds like it was made *yesterday*.

I really enjoyed Sinners but my biggest criticism is how the (genuinely cool) music montage scene gave little to no credence to soul, funk, Motown, and disco artists, which also owe their development to blues. One fancy-dressed rocker as an ode to Rick James types is fine but too simplistic imo.

Where Evil Lurks (2023) feels like the first time I've really seen this in action. Protagonist white man bumbling through it, but in a horror movie context.
10.10.2025 18:36 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The first Star Wars film and Saturday Night Fever both came out in the same year
08.10.2025 05:26 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I had to stop what I was doing and grab my iPad to record this clip from #StuGO, I was trying so hard the whole time not to laugh.
16.09.2025 18:40 β π 32 π 9 π¬ 3 π 2StuGo is also not a great title. It doesn't seem to refer to anything in the show? It's not a place, nor a character name, nor a central McGuffin or anything. Its humor is very Spongebob with flashes of both Phineas and Ferb and Smiling Friends.
29.08.2025 22:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Had some time this week (finally!) and I went to check out StuGo, thinking I'd watch an episode or two. Binging the whole thing now. It's pretty incredible, but it's also clear why Disney seemed to have so much trouble marketing it. It's *unhinged*.
29.08.2025 22:58 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Honestly it's a question I've been wrestling with for years! Family Guy did a "bottle episode" where Brian and Stewie get locked in a vault, but there's several different unique angles and perspectives that had to be drawn individually, so it doesn't quite meet the pre-designed set requirement.
29.08.2025 20:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm pretty sure Teen Titans Go did this
29.08.2025 19:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Curious how it compares to the Spike Lee ones from several years back?
29.08.2025 05:12 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0It took a loooong time, but the balance between cartoon-y energy, straightforward narrative pacing, and strong Black perspectives/critiques has *finally* clicked. This feels like "new showrunner" energy.
22.08.2025 02:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So I know that the new season of The Proud Family rankled a lot of folks with the "kick Penny out the house as punishment but it's actually abuse" storyline (admittedly much deserved) but this 3rd season is actually really good?
22.08.2025 02:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0*to be a little fair, B-side marketing was very much a thing, as underground club DJs would *always* work with B-sides first. This sort of ends up diminishing the "album" tracking of these bands though.
17.08.2025 20:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is one of those songs that they instantly knew would be a hit. MSF backed arrangements. Norman Harris at guitar. Thom Bell and Phil Hurtt as producers. A sound that somehow fits a chill/relaxed vibe AND could cook in the club scene. And it was a B-side!*
