normally you can see both the inner and outer faces of models, but you can make it so backfaces (simply just the back of a face, the part which is meant to be on the inside of the model) are not rendered in order to have a model be less demanding on the system. this is called backface culling

i can tell you the likely reason why this would be the case. the normals of the model were likely inverted, basically telling all the faces on it that they should face the opposite direction to where they are meant to. that means they face inwards instead of outward
