I was just in front of the Bubbles Play Area. There's a place to shelter there. Bird came in between here & Morrisons then went straight inland.

Birder, Part time twitcher, wildlife gardener, also interested in moths, butterflies and dragonflies. (All opinions are my own)

05.10.2025 11:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I was. I'm going to get my son to help me enhance the photos. See if I can make out how many bars it has on the primaries!
04.10.2025 21:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The harrier that came in off the sea at New Brighton, Cheshire today. Managed a few shots (that weren't too bad considering the weather!) before it disappeared quickly inland. #UKBirding
04.10.2025 18:15 β π 51 π 4 π¬ 3 π 0Back out on the bike today after a bit of a break. Not much but a couple of juvenile Black-necked Grebes were at Woolston while the ride also had a few Goldcrests, Grey Wagtail & a sparrowhawk. Also helped improve fitness levels ready for the Autumn rush of birds! #UKBirding #BirdingByBike
06.09.2025 15:00 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Enjoy! I've been to Gambia twice now but will certainly be back again before too long. The birds are just amazing!
27.08.2025 21:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Farasutu Forest was good as were Brufut Woods & Lamin Rice Fields. I found Abuko a bit disappointing last time. Kotu Creak & the sewage works were always good too. Lots of bird guides there.
27.08.2025 16:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social I know there are a few very similar species, but is this Argyresthia semifusca? Thanks for any help as ever.
24.08.2025 14:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks. I'm sure I'll get the hang of these pugs one day!
20.08.2025 18:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social Could this be an Ocherous Pug? Never seen one before if it is! Thanks.
19.08.2025 15:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Caught this weird looking Brimstone Moth last week. Never come across one like it before. #Teammoth
19.08.2025 15:05 β π 26 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks. Only our second records of each one!
30.06.2025 07:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social A couple of moths from today which I think are Clouded Brindle & Large Twin-spot Carpet. Both scarce in our area so could do with a second opinion! Thanks.

22.06.2025 21:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social Still struggle with pugs but I'm going with Wormwood? Really helps having confirmation (or not!) in the learning process. Thanks as ever.
22.06.2025 16:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social A couple of micros from today. I'm going with Pyrausta purpuralis and Phycita roborella. Thanks for any help as always.

20.06.2025 21:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Managed to cycle over to Daresbury today to add the Woodchat Shrike to my #BirdingByBike year list. The best bird on it and a great way to bring up the 150! #LowCarbonBriding #UKBirding
09.06.2025 16:16 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social A couple of micros from today's trap. I'm going with Hedya nubiferana and Ancylis achatana. Thanks as usual for your help.
09.06.2025 16:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's been bugging me since I wrote this. How can it be 20 years since Springwatch when this was 2003? Turns out the show was called Wild in your Garden back then. Still had Bill & Kate as presenters.
31.05.2025 18:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social A few I was stuck on from last weekend. Not sure about the pug or micros, but do you think the other is Vine's Rustic? We've never had one here in the spring so it would be good to confirm. Thanks as ever for your help.
30.05.2025 18:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social A few moths from today. I think these are Broken-barred Carpet & Ingrailed Clay. Not sure about the micro though. Any help much appreciated as usual.
24.05.2025 16:23 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Went for the sparrow on the Wirral and they filmed some of us birders who were there for a new BBC show they were making called Spring watch! I never made the cut though when it went to air!
23.05.2025 18:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social Do you think this is Hedya pruniana? Caught yesterday.
18.05.2025 19:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A great start to the weekend yesterday with a quick ride over to Newchurch Common after work. The Hoopoe eventually showed well, feeding & singing from the tree-tops! Don't remember ever hearing one singing in the UK before. Probably my best bike tick of the year so far. #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding
10.05.2025 16:18 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks. That's what I'd gone with too. Fits in with our records from previous years too.
05.05.2025 17:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Had a ride up to Woolston Eyes today where at least 18 Black-necked Grebes showed well on No4 Bed. Also managed to add Hobby, Whimbrel & Wood Sandpiper to the bike year list #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding
04.05.2025 15:46 β π 14 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0@mothiduk.bsky.social Two pugs I'm struggling with from today. Photos not that good either- my camera always struggles when they rest on the wall at the back of the trap. Any help greatly appreciated as ever.
04.05.2025 15:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A 30 mile circuit today around Delamere Forest & Abbott's Moss. No sign of yesterday's Wood Warbler but Pied Flycatcher & Redstart were good additions to the #BirdingByBike yearlist (even though they didn't show for long) Now up to 141 for the year. #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding
03.05.2025 14:56 β π 18 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Grasshopper Warbler
Spotted Redshanks with Black-tailed Godwits.
A 60 mile ride over to Burton Mere Wetlands today. Added some tricky birds to my #BirdingByBike yearlist including Little Owl, Spotted Redshank, Grasshopper Warbler & Cattle Egret. Also my 1st Sedge Warbler & Whitethroat of the year. Currently at home having a sit down! #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding
