Which lives are being ruined? Patients, doctors or PAs? It is very difficult for you as the mother of a PA to be clear about this. Anyway I am willing to bet your daughterโ€™s life is not being ruined. You know a PA who was responsible for a death is still working in another practice?

I doubt that this will happen as people are only becoming aware of it now and I think the lobby against lowering standards in healthcare will grow. This isnโ€™t โ€™hatefulโ€™ โ€˜bullyingโ€™ or โ€˜bigotedโ€™ it is simply preferring a qualified doctor over a PA or AA. It is about knowledge, standards and safety.

I can see how you would like this debate to go away and for those who are opposed to the unsafe practice of replacing doctors with vastly less trained PAs and AAs to be silenced.

Also if you think I have the wrong case please enlighten me with the case we are referring to?

Wow. I am an apologist for hate speak and bullies because I believe you need to be a qualified doctor to insert and bolt into a persons head without their being able to consent? Nope. Where I am from that is so obvious it is called common sense.

07.02.2025 12:37 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

On the contrary Iโ€™m v concerned.
Procedure done by PA- under Consent Form 4 ie patient could give not consent- also signed by PA
And no evidence of senior involvement for a Left Frontal Bolt insertion in a patients head.
Forgive me if I chose to be concerned for the patient.

What was this PA doing? โ€˜What qualifications and trainings does the PA have to place something inside someone's skull.โ€™? It is terrifying that PAs who have 2 years training are performing brain surgery! Look it from the other side if you can.

NHS England has no idea about GPs Reform will only happen when the organisation confronts how lamentably wrong-headed it has been.

The curious case of Sarah and her sinuses, and what it reveals about the lamentable wrong-headedness among the leadership of England's NHS. My piece in this week's @newstatesman.com

I seriously doubt doctors are worried about their status.

02.02.2025 15:01 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I really havenโ€™t seen the vilifying you are speaking about but I do think there is an issue with PAs being paid band 7 at the get go when far more qualified staff who are held responsible and are regulated are paid less - midwives ANP, paramedics and doctors etc

02.02.2025 15:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It is now the Royal Colleges (representing 1000โ€™s of doctors and responsible for standards) highlighting the problem not just a small group. People who are not doctors and who only have two years education are dangerously replacing doctors GPs anaesthetists, surgeons it cannot continue safely.

02.02.2025 11:43 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Canโ€™t you see this is a smear? You are saying doctors are trying to frighten the public, and just worried about their jobs and status.

02.02.2025 11:39 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think people would want the job. It is very well paid. Most science graduates do not get paid that much.

02.02.2025 09:39 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think they should retrain with GEM. That way they would be properly qualified.

02.02.2025 09:37 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Ask PAs what sort of degree they have &where they got it from and if they applied for medicine first. PAs who go onto GEM say their first degree was of little to no consequence. PA is a two year course, easy to get on I canโ€™t see how you think this makes them well qualified professionals.

02.02.2025 09:27 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I certainly wonโ€™t be happy if people are left with nothing but I do not see that what is happening now can continue.

01.02.2025 22:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I expect those in permanent posts in GP practices will remain but will have to work to scope/ be redeployed but again work to scope which seems correct to me.

Can you find that post for me?

01.02.2025 20:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Are you suggesting a doctor wrote a post suggesting all PAs should be shot?

01.02.2025 20:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

In it in the 2 years light vs 5 years heavy. They just do not have the solid base to replace doctors. I know you say they are not doing that but all the evidence I see shows they are often working way outside their education and are replacing doctors.

01.02.2025 20:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I have looked up mysticsid1 and he is clearly a far right loon and certainly not a doctor. I actually already had him blocked.

01.02.2025 20:51 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I see plenty of PAs doing that on Twitter. I find doctors are more reasoned and fact based normally. Doctors are interested in patient safety and maintaining gold standard medical education.

01.02.2025 20:42 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Will I see these bombs on your thread? Because I hear about such things but never see them.

01.02.2025 20:41 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

You canโ€™t say the argument is spurious in any meaningful way. If they were simply fulfilling a role on a MDT they would have a specific role and they would never be on dr rotas.

01.02.2025 20:39 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Well as there were under 200 PAs until 2015 your 20 years doesnโ€™t amount to much. It is only since 2016 numbers have been rising rapidly and actually ARRS fees to GPs only since 2019.
