Lately my #LadyLobbyists research has me going down genealogical rabbit holes. I knew this Etsu Masaoka (nee Mineta) had been in an internment camp during World War II, but seeing the bureaucratic record is something else ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ž

i strongly, strongly believe that good writing is downstream of clear thinking and a strong understanding of the subject matter at hand. without fail, tortured writing comes from writers who donโ€™t know and canโ€™t think clearly about anything.

Read the whole thread, but I'm highlighting this part because calling students in for a face-to-face meeting to discuss a problematic assignment is an underrated strategy โฌ‡๏ธ

This is a terrible story--both because of the trap that was set (either in advance or ret-conned to seize a moment) for this graduate student but also because the student's department failed her. The 1st problem is easy to see, but I want to explain the 2nd one. 1/x

Today, hundreds of Hoosiers sent a message directly to lawmakers: we, the voters, reject policies that undermine fair representation within our state.

CALLOUT: I am looking to interview individuals who have sought health care at crisis pregnancy centers, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and want to talk about their experience. The center can be located anywhere. If you or someone you know might be interested, please email or send me a DM.

It sucks that meeting a new class now involves not just going over the syllabus, setting expectations, and trying to establish a rapport, but also trying to deduce whether any of your new students are vigilante right wing operatives out to seek viral controversy at the expense of your job

AI tools are 'deskilling' workers, philosophy professor says A philosophy professor warns that AI reliance is weakening workers' judgment, creativity, and problem-solving.

We can't really say this enough...

> Anastasia Berg [at UCL Irvine] said that new research โ€” and what she's hearing directly from colleagues across various industries โ€” shows that employees who heavily rely on AI are losing core skills at a startling rate.

Indiana colleges must answer how new degrees commit to American values Under new requirements, universities must answer whether proposed degree programs exercise a "commitment to the core values of American society."

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education's new policy is threatening shared governance and academic freedom.

"This policy is the latest effort by Indiana's politicians to take power away from faculty & cheapen the education students have access to in Indiana."

โ€œMany of you have asked my position on redistricting. I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter. Those of you that donโ€™t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome. This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences. I will be voting NO on redistricting, perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority.โ€
