Just turned in my #BaxterHall key; we'll see if my sabbatical home in Center Hall lives up to the hype

I'm told this was historically the College president's office ๐Ÿ‘€

Speaking of Hoosiers and historical markers, Capital Chronicle just ran a piece on markers in Indiana: indianacapitalchronicle.com/2025/07/21/i...

My favorite IN marker is the Joaquin Miller one in Lebanon:

For years I have been saying we must get rid of course evaluations. Lots of good tools for qualitative confidential feedback. But the bureaucratic centralized course evaluation is a tool for replicating bigotry.

If you have power in your department or institution, now is a moment to follow through and remove them from your process.

Getting students conscious of this tendency does seem to have an effect in subsequent assignments/discussions, but it's an interesting/troubling sign of the times that this is necessary

I've started calling them out on it in #PSC111 -- this slide is from discussion of an early-semester reading about the state of democracy in the US and world

Right. But also, I'm mulling it over in light of a trend I've been noticing among students: If I ask for their reaction (e.g., to a news story), they increasingly invariably state if it surprised them or not. One even once said, "I guess I don't have a reaction because it's not surprising to me."

Let me tell yโ€™all about my frozen shoulder(s).

Twice now Iโ€™ve spent the better part of a year being unable to raise one or the other arm above shoulder height. Or bend it up my back.

This has meant that fairly simple tasks have become impossible.
