I just got back from the night with the girls (and a guy). We had a dinner event, then went back and watched a bunch of interest in YouTube stuff while we all chatted for like a couple hours. Very fun.

I found that a pickaxe works incredibly well for breaking the ice but shovels suck. Basically, I'm kind of looking for platforms to strike on the ice, almost the way you would on a big chunk of Flint. I strike those with the pickaxe, and it comes apart so fast.

This reminds me of the first lithics that I found in the field and identified. I still remember that experience as an undergraduate with two grad archaeologists (who weren't up on lithics) having to call me over to identify them 🥰
