What's the alternative to using a blockchain for modern payments, letting Visa and banks profit off the transactions?

Larry, our 10 month old Tabby, looks at his big paw. We assume he'll get bigger because his paws are pretty big
The Simpsons meme pic of the guy reading a note he wrote on his huge hand, "I'm tired of the jokes about my giant hand. The first such incident occurred...."
Larry is big at 10 months old now but looks like he might still be growing into his giant paws

It's not a great picture of it, but today Paco saw his first hummingbird and it was pretty exciting
He's been keeping an eye on the feeder since it left. We get hummingbirds until about late August so he has plenty of time to left to enjoy
Our orange cat Paco bites his brother Larry's ear
Larry puts up with a lot from his little brother Paco
10.05.2025 04:17 β π 20 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I guess when I have fast feelings it's either being instantly upset by cruelty, or joyful with a pleasant surprise or feeling of relief.
You're making me notice that my feelings are generally slower than most people. Maybe that's good for us? More time to react rationally before emotionally?
Thinking about it more- maybe for me the speed depends on the feelings and situation. If it's sometime like being lightly insulted or ripped off, it takes awhile for the feeling to sink in
I notice in emergencies other people freak out instantly but I don't til it's over. Maybe semi autistic trait?
Depends.... Normally my feelings are faster.
In a frightening emergency where I need to take action my thoughts are much faster and I feel it later
Yep, between Inslee and the unions. But Ferguson said instead of giving those raises he wanted to give the employees furloughs instead because he didn't want to raise taxes
30.04.2025 02:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't oppose the wealth tax, but even without it I want that budget signed.
He's definitely not sending the budget back for that since he already rejected the idea, but he better not line item veto the employee raises that he didn't support to begin with even though they were already negotiated
Now sign the budget the legislature just delivered that gives us state employees raises

Paco, or orange baby kitten, looks inside from the catio through the cat door
I'm glad it's working so well. Paco here had a hard time with the catio door so far. Larry does fine with it, but Paco finds it challenging and it closes on his tail.
We had to do some treats as motivation to get him determined enough to push through, and that seems to help but he's still learning
My cats, Larry and Paco, watch me play my electric guiter
I know it's cliche because everyone says this, but I really have the best audience

A view from the outside
We had our catio closed up after adopting paco and larry because it was getting cold when we got them and they both had bad cases of pneumonia
The door is back in place now for spring and they seem pretty excited about it. I'm surprised they are still small enough to fit through the door together
Sure, but 4% savings when there has been 4.2% inflation for the last five years isnt going in the right direction, and that was my whole point - and I think what mark was saying
25.03.2025 09:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Nice, better than mine. Not everyone can get membership in a CU like that and there are probably limits to the number of withdrawals per month.
That and the higher potential gains are why young people use coinbase and Robinhood for "savings" so I understand what mark is trying to say though
Inflation for the last five years has averaged 4.2% per year, what does your credit union give?
