18.10.2025 01:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To expand on this, in my view the central, core tragedy of the Antigone (the play, not the [removed for brevity]) is that Antigone is right, but that Creon, while wrong(ish) *also* has a point: civic authority and unity are necessary in the aftermath of civil chaos and war.

16.10.2025 01:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Opening night for Sarah Ruhl's Dead Man's Cell Phone (playing Gordon, the dead man).
What a playwright she is; not a single wasted word and an endless amount of ideas to explore. I almost think I like it better than Eurydice (but to be fair both productions I've seen of eurydice were not the best)
You will die. You will not live forever. Nor will any man nor any thing. Nothing is immortal. But only to us is it given to know that we must die. And that is a great gift: the gift of selfhood. For we have only what we know we must lose, what we are willing to lose.

Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me πWeβre just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. Itβs been a roaring success. For every β¬1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got β¬1.46 back. Canβt argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
Damn. This is amazing. Β£325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

true voyage is return.
For every β¬1 of public money invested in the pilot, society received β¬1.39 in return The net cost of the BIA pilot went from β¬105m to under β¬72m due to tax generated and savings on social welfare payments
It also finds that recipientsβ arts-related income increased by over β¬500 per month on average, while their income from non-arts work decreased by around β¬280. Dependence on social protection declined, with recipients receiving β¬100 less per month on average, and 38 percentage points less likely to receive Jobseekerβs payments.
Ireland just released a report showing the huge success of the unconditional basic income it provided to artists. Each $1 spent led to society gaining $1.39. Artists' earned incomes went up more than their side job incomes fell. And they were happier and used less welfare

Tell the truth.
