"professor assigns own textbook as primary reading for course" is an obvious conflict of $$$ interest, but also, it makes lecture slides and assigned reading colinear. when lecturer and textbook author are separate, students get two ~independent chances to vibe with the material, presented two ways.

the collapse of cohost has really rattled me. they were burning five grand a month in cdn fees. no vc bogeymen to blame. my sense of the web as a permissionless platform where your limiting reagents are vision, ambition, and energy --and not money-- took a big hit on that one.

i feel, ego wise, like i should just be paying much less money and doing much more myself, just on AWS or GCP or wherever. except the host i overpay really does do a bunch of stuff for me i have no experience with, like turning away the new flood of AI spider/scrapers.

i have this nagging sense that i should be more in control of this virtual box that is gawalt.com than i am. it sucks to get the runaround for the first three messages back and forth to tech support. the host i pay just doesn't expect "ssh into the box" as a modal use case. it's a wordpress shop.

alright, so, this was actually more explicable than it felt at the time. basically a deadlock between "couldn't remember password, changed password in the web console, trying to use new password 'too soon' caused a total lockout on ssh." it's better now, all due to just waiting some. but,
