I agree that fact-checking is needed, but this writer does not understand how memory works, and she makes a number of assumptions that bias conclusions (e.g., Trump's alleged timeline must be true; Graham was in SC, so he couldn't have gone to AL, etc.)

4/3 If the presence of memory fragmentation alone disqualified the validity of any trauma report, then we would never be able to investigate the victimization of either children or adults. Credibility assessment is important and necessary, but it is based on many factors, including corroboration.

3.5/3 Trauma memories can also include vaguer, "gist" memories that may be more fragmented, emotionally intense, but lack contextual details. These videos--whether they are genuine or not, I can't say--exemplify these processes.

3/3 People disputing the accuracy of trauma survivors' reports often use these processes to claim (incorrectly) that the survivor's report isn't reliable. Lots of scientific evidence of very accurate, partial recollection of trauma. Trauma survivors often have very vivid, detailed memories.

2/3 Trauma memory retrieval can be fluid and state-dependent, meaning that retrieval of memories can be facilitated when the subject is in an emotional or physical state that is similar to the conditions under stressful conditions. Not surprising that new details become clear upon reflection.

1/3 I also want to add that the fact this individual has difficulty with some aspects of memory retrieval does not invalidate his claims. Neuroscience has confirmed time and again that trauma memories can be accurate and also incomplete.
