Mass car use is geometrically incompatible with great cities. Transit & bikes are the future. Tech things sometimes.

Exactly. The commute is an obvious part of this, but living in a place where taking the kids to school, buying groceries, going for a run in the park, getting a coffee, or visiting your friend all require a drive adds up to a lot of miles.

Sehinne’s poem, titled β€œBART,” was the first to β€œbreak the nine barrier” at the 2025 Brave New Voices slam poetry festival, meaning every judge scored Sehinne’s piece a nine or above. Sehinne’s group, Team Youth Speaks Bay Area, took home first place.

Reading this, lol. The law firm that drafted this seems to have rather low standards of work. The findings section is separate for a reason.

Also, what is all this about "transit" in here? SFMTA ran zero buses on the Great Highway.

I haven't seen much on this site about the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act

It sounds like a great idea - the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has shown itself to be unable or unwilling to keep pace with other regulators in vehicle standards or safety

But, the Act doesn't fix that /x

The number of times @alfredtwu.com has quietly and with insufficient recognition saved 100s of people many hours of time by summarizing complex information is too numerous to count. A coalition of advocates worked hard to move this from a flat tax that wouldn't have generated enough money, to a more progressive variable rate tax that does. Better rates for multifamily, some tenet protections, and CPI indexing. It's not perfect, but it's far better than where it started!

Bay Area home prices soar near BART. What happens if stations close? Faced with a budget deficit of up to $400 million, BART officials are weighing plans to close stations and eviscerate service. The cuts would wreak havoc on the Bay Area real estate market.

Sure, home property values would decline if BART shuts down. But let's also talk about downtown office buildings. The buildings that pay the majority of property taxes in the city. In a city with a budget that doesn't need another big hit.

The Internet being generally cooked is sad; I spent the first half of my life trying to build useful Internet things. I believed it would be a generally useful tool for humanity. The facts are not presenting a strong case for that future.

They are already regulated. I'm replying to a thread about media conflating those devices with illegally advertised, not regulated e-motorcycles.

You have replied multiple times implying people are disabled or weak for not riding non-assist bikes.

Fair. But I also think editors are intentional about clickbait, and track what does good numbers very closely. In a real sense, good clickbait *is* competence.

15.02.2026 00:29 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I will say, this article got better after the first couple paragraphs, where I suspect an editor intentionally played up the confusion. But quoting people like Jackie Spear calling e-bikes a "public health crisis" without contextualizing the numbers is simply reprinting hysteria.

Instead we're likely to punish legal e-bike riders by imposing more and more regulations on use. Because the media is going to create a fear of e-cycling. I don't think many who are engaged in this push consciously understand that they are fighting for motonormativity, but that'll be the result.

14.02.2026 19:35 β€” πŸ‘ 22    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

E-moto devices are already illegal in California without a license. Yet I see advertisements for them every time I log into YouTube, mislabeling them as e-bikes, implying they don't need a license.

The state should sue Google and online retailers like Temu who are brazenly breaking the law.

I think the media understands the difference between e-bikes and illegal e-motos. They are intentionally conflating the difference between legal e-bikes and illegal e-motos to stoke fear and get clicks.

It's could destroy the e-bike revolution if we don't find a way to stop it.

Sadly, USPS is exempt from local parking regulations by federal law. The local USPS would need to make a local determination to work within local laws. It's a discussion we should have with the Teamsters (who represent a lot of USPS workers).

BART could close these 15 stations if new funding isn't secured BART officials warn that without a new revenue source, the agency may be forced to close 15 of its stations and reduce train frequency.

BART's plans would include service cuts, laying off 1,200 workers, and station closures if the @connectbayarea.bsky.social measure fails.

Gather signatures with us to make sure the measure gets on the ballot this November! luma.com/connectbayarea.
