I had a professor of Jewish Studies at UChicago who made the administration very angry because every year he made a proposal for the university to create an on-campus memorial to the worldwide victims of the UChicago economics department.

You could call this poetic justice, that the university that did more to foster extreme neoliberalism than any other is now being punished by that very ideology coming home to them, except that the UChicago economics department will be protected at all costs. It's the others who will suffer.

They are two different things. Three, really. The Sheriff doesn't have a choice when it comes to a judicial warrant. He does with an ICE admin warrant, which is a warrant ICE issues to itself, and a detainer, which is just a request to hold inmates until ICE drops by. Our Sheriff complies with all.

"Spreading awareness" too often feeds into the notion that lone individuals are responsible for finding solutions to social problems. It does no good and often great harm to roll up on people, tell them something horrible, and leave them writhing in anguish and despair. It's hugely disempowering.

I'm seeing somewhat less stunned admiration of the problem, but still not enough suggested and ongoing courses of action. At various times as an organizer, I have talked about the gloomiest shit possible, but never without ending with an action item.
