Several of my neighbors voted for Trump. I know many people in my town who voted for Trump and see what they post on social media. These people are not lurking in the shadows. They're in your face and hard to avoid, even in my "liberal bubble."

It is completely obvious that the party lost in 2024 because it overcommitted to a range of unpopular left-wing positions, some of which yielded disastrous policy results (like the Biden migration wave) while others merely persuaded constituencies that had voted Democratic in the past (like blue-collar Midwesterners or culturally conservative Latino men) that the party now cared more about climate change

In poll after poll, Americans have said that they know little to nothing about the IRA, with the most recent poll, out in April 2024, finding that 4 in 10 people say that they don’t know enough about the law’s provisions to have an opinion on them. At the same time, a July 2023 Data for Progress poll found that large numbers of Americans support provisions in the IRA when asked specifically about them, including tax credits for businesses that produce clean electricity, electric vehicles, and new clean energy technologies (69%); rebates up to $14,000 per household to improve home energy efficiency (71%); and ramping up production of American-made clean energy technologies (73%). And perhaps most significantly, support for these key IRA provisions has grown over time among all likely voters, especially Republican voters.

Utterly bizarre to describe climate change policy as some kind of radical-left albatross.

The IRA contained precisely the kind of 'kitchen table' programs everyone says Democrats should focus on β€” and they're popular!

The problem was that Americans *didn't know* what the IRA was or who passed it.

the party now cared more about climate change and various academic fixations than cheap energy and good-paying jobs.

the party now cared more about climate change and various academic fixations than cheap energy and good-paying jobs.

This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

the assumptions made about the target audience by making the first two items "OnlyFans' and 'child support' are kind of incredible

SNAP benefits feed essential needs while still leaving many hungry for more Journalist and author Adam Chandler explains what so much of the conversation about them gets wrong.

In 2023:
-39% of SNAP users were Americans under the age of 18
-19% of SNAP users were 60 or older
-60% of SNAP benefits went to families with children

BOTHSIDES!

One side controls all three branches of the government and can end the shutdown anytime they feel like in but won't because they can still get their judges passed and the like.

The other side is none of that and can't.

I DON'T SEE A DIFFERENCE!!!

So there were some AI-generated videos that purported to show Black women ranting about SNAP benefits, and... Fox News is reporting on this like these are real people. They're not! They're AI!

This is truly insane. Total unreality. www.foxnews.com/media/snap-b...

I don’t see this as a contradiction, I think they were never willing to mask when they thought it was primarily to help others. They mask now because they know it’s to help themselves. The through lines are anti social behavior and failure to think systemically.

It's tempting to say that Count Chocula would defeat Sesame Street's The Count in a battle to the death. He's bigger. He's not debilitated by OCD. I get it. That's what I thought too.

But consider that fangs will likely be a key weapon and that Chocula's are likely riddled by sugar decay.

noteworthy that rather than funding experiments into challenging conservative message domination on the local level or building between-election outreach capacity at the state level, centrist donors are throwing millions at what amount to online factional battles among a couple dozen people

A lotta ink has been spilled on the loneliness epidemic among young men. But I was talking dating with my 25-yo niece (who's smart, funny and hot) and she said, 'you have no idea how bad all these red-pilled dudes are these days. They're basically undateable.'

A lot of people have somehow decided that this is a conversation about trans people not wanting to vote for an anti-trans bigot like Gavin Newsom and it absolutely is not.

He doesn't deserve their votes and they'd be right to hold them back. But I wouldn't expect that to change his mind.
