Even if the world were nothing but vile, and the essence of humanity were purely evil, I would be the one to change it. Not because I can, but because I must. If one is determined to cut, anything can be cut. If a mere branch can split a great mountain, then what can a sword not cleave?

At the deepest core of the human heart lies an essence, a fundamental goodness that requires no proof—I believe this. Therefore, I will not hesitate. I will become stronger. With faith in this inherent and intrinsic virtue, I will prove my existence.

Leaving behind the past, where I floundered in a swamp of incompetence and affliction, I now move forward—to do the things I have left undone, to atone for the lost time, the hours I perhaps let drift away in vain.

At times, I may become weak. There will surely be moments when I doubt myself, when I am disappointed by people and sob in frustration, when I despair at the world and roar in anguish. But still, I will rise. And I will take another step forward.

Yet, despite all this, I must keep moving forward. Turning fear into courage, rising again after every fall—this is what life is, is it not?

This year is filled with uncertainty—both from a macro perspective, such as politics, and from a personal one, including my own relationships. There are many things I do not want to do, see, or hear. I want to avoid them, to be freed from suffering, and to be liberated into true freedom.

앞으로 발걸음을 뗄 것이다. 스스로의 무능함과 심병이 만든 늪에 허우적대던 과거는 이제 뒤로 하고서, 그동안 하지 못한 것들을 하기 위해, 잃어버린, 어쩌면 허무히 떠내려보낸 시간들에 사죄하기 위해, 그리하여 세상은 아직 살만하고, 추악한만큼이나 눈물 나도록 찬란하게 아름답다는 명제를 감히 나는 증명해 보이고자 한다. 인간의 마음 속 가장 깊은 곳에는 본질이며, 존재의 증명이 불요한 선함이 있다고 나는 믿는다. 따라서 나는 망설이지 않을 것이고, 강해질 것이다. 본질적이며 천부적인 선에 대한 믿음으로 나는 내 존재를 증명할 것이다.

을사년을 맞으며

올해는 불확실로 가득 차 있다. 정치를 비롯한 거시적 관점으로도, 내 연애를 비롯한 개인적인 면으로도. 하고 싶지 않은 것, 보고 싶지 않은 것, 듣고 싶지 않은 것이 많고, 그러기에 회피하고 싶고 고통에서 해방되어 자유로워지고 싶지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 전진해야 하는 것이, 두려움을 용기로 바꾸고, 칠전해도 팔기해야만 하는 것이 곧 삶이지 않은가. 가끔씩 심약해질 때도 있겠지. 스스로에게 의심을 품을 때도, 사람에 실망해 체읍하고 세상에 절망해 포효할 때도... 분명 있겠지. 하지만, 그래도 일어날 것이고,
