A tall, narrow mausoleum made from sandatone. It is Gothic revival style with the iron doors pushed inwards. There is as a small blue and red stained glass window in the back, with a white cross in the middle, letting sun shine into the structure.

Day 8, Glass: I struggled to find an example in my phone for this one! Here we have a family mausoleum in Pére Lachaise, Paris, with light shining through a gorgeous little stained glass window in the back. #31DaysofGraves 🏺

Me: this masculinity chapter is going to be so hard to write, just as difficult as the poverty chapter
Also me: 2500 words in after 3 days of writing and we haven’t even hit the Civil War yet.

Thank you! I’ve been using the πŸŽ‰ emoji a lot this morning. I’m an archaeologist and I’m looking at data from Springfield, Ill so it’s great to have the maps ready to go so I can add features on them with a CC license.

I just found out about this from @resourcefulsqrl.bsky.social and I cannot properly convey my excitement because one of the map sets I need for my book are georeferenced and ready to go and that makes it so much easier as a postdoc who doesn’t have protected research time to make figures.

I will roll in playing a cleric like I always do. And I will dead ass play a life cleric. And I will take two levels of monk or fighter just so I can knock out anyone who calls that hypocritical.

Anyone around today or tomorrow who is willing to answer a few questions about their academic book contract? I just got a draft of mine and I don’t have many benchmarks for if it’s okay or not tbh.

This is just National Institutes of Health grant funding. Similar refusal to spend funds appropriated by Congress has been happening all across the governmentβ€” and Republicans in Congress, every one of them doormats for Musk and Trump, have sat around and watched. This via @pamherd.bsky.social

Will US academics even be able to attend conferences anymore? Eg, healthcare, life sciences, climate/environmental science?
With what funds? And to present what research? What’s left after everything that was funded by or in collaboration with NIH, USAID, CDC, WHO, NOAA, etc?

NIH Spending Cuts on β€˜Indirect Costs’ Could Halt Lifesaving Research Scientists are worried about the future of the nation’s health if these cuts, now being challenged in court, are enacted.

β€œComputers are indirect costs. They are essential for research, but don’t get used up,” Iwashyna says. β€œResearch office space, lab space, staplers, libraries β€” all of these are not specific to only a single project, so they are covered under indirect costs.”

EncyclopΓ¦dia Britannica will continue to use β€˜Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons:

-We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S.

-The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous.

"From Baylor to Florida State to Clemson to Ohio State, these are enormous places that will lose tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in research support under this move. Jobs will disappear, labs will close, trials will stop, drugs will go undiscovered, patients will die."

From Mooktie to Juan: The Eugenic Origins of the β€œDefective Immigrant” On a Monday in November 1905, a β€œlittle deaf and dumb … 10-year old Eurasian girl” called Mooktie Wood arrived in the US on the steamship Canopic. An orphan with no known relatives, Mooktie had bee…

This essay by @disabilitystor1.bsky.social is the perfect antidote to some of the statements I see from 'disability advocates' who blithely propose immigration as a strategy for disabled people in the US nursingclio.org/2018/06/28/e...

The US is far from the only nation that does this, BTW
