Customer Alert: Loop ‘L’ Service Temporary Suspension - CTA Service to Loop stns (Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Wash./Wabash, Adams/Wabash, HW Library, LaSalle/Van Buren, Quincy and Wash./Wells) will be temporarily suspended.

Rail closures like this are why we NEED more bus lanes in the loop. It's a lot easier to bus replace rail service with its own right-of-way when the buses under it also have the same right of way.

The silver lining about having my flight delayed to this morning is that I was able to avoid paying for a taxi or ride share and was just able to take the free bus network.

And I finally made it to the land of City Nerd.

Made it to Phoenix which thankfully isn't my final destination. I'm also happy I made my connecting flight with plenty of time to spare.

First time flying Southwest since the first round of changes and to no one's surprise they are checking carry-ons to avoid boarding delays. Funny how when you start charging for check bags that can be loaded before people board everyone brings carryons that hold up people trying to take a seat.

At least my plane is here today.

The pictures from yesterday evening because I was supposed to fly out then but was going to miss my connection in DEN. I will make a thread about the lack of connectivity between SLC and my destination when I can use my laptop and am not dead tired from working overnights the past couple days.

The UTA green line is easily the best way to get to the airport assuming flight doesn't depart before service starts or lands after service ends. Hopefully that changes with the introduction of the Orange Line in the next decade.

Sad thing is it used to get so much worse.

Hot Take: The fares should have been higher but included fare capping to reduce costs on regular riders. I would honestly be ok with a fare as high as $3.50 if it meant I wouldn't pay more than $7 in a day (2 taps) or $28 in a week (8 taps), or $98 in a month (28 taps).

Some details that have gone largely unnoticed include the RCP now being cost prohibitive to reduced fare riders, no one-way rail fare increase for reduced riders but they are now being charge the O'Hare premium, and Tap-To-Pay Fares are now $3 whether it's on a bus or train.

Here is a detailed list of all the fare changes happening across the RTA. Pace fare increases are generally 10% with Metra's ranging between 10-15%. CTA's is all over with anything other than one-way fares up 15% plus, including 20% on most passes and 50% on the RCP.

Another issue with the current Regional Pass system is that there is no option for reduced fare. With the Regional Connect Pass now being $45, it is actually cheaper for reduced fare riders to buy the 30-Day CTA/Pace Pass for $40.

Speaking of PAYGO, Tap-to-Pay is now a premium at $3.00 per ride whether it's on bus or rail.

The only one that is defensible is the 7-day pass it was lowered from $25 to $20 in 2023. Also no mention of fare capping.

The main reason rail service here ends so late is due to freight trains operating in the south ends of the lines and FRA regulations prohibiting them to run in tandem with passenger service.

As much as I hate how early UTA service ends they at least cater to major events when they go late. The Utes game just finished at 11:45p MDT due to rain delays and they are still going to operate Red Line Trains for riders.

It got even more confusing.

Hopefully nobody who took the UP-W tonight is ADA.

It has since been taken down be McDonald's is having none of that.

Detailed fare increase metric for the CTA, Metra, and Pace. CTA one-way fares are yet to be announced but it is pretty easy to assume they will see the $.25 as it is in line with the 10% increase the RTA is requiring.

Something not shown is the 15% increase of the Regional Day Pass and 20% plus increase to the Metra Monthly with the Regional Connect Pass. The CTA is assumedly making the calls and increased the price of the RDP add-on by 20% from $2.50 to $3 and the RCP add-on by 50% from $30 to $45.

Surely this has nothing to do with it.

The "North Suburban Cook County" Metra Budget hearing is being held in Hanover Park that outside of the nearby Metra station, only has a single hourly Pace bus connection. It is also barely in Cook County, with half of the village actually in DuPage County.

MAGA is now also raising car insurance rates.
