Systems consolidation reorganizes hippocampal engram circuitry Nature - A study shows that loss of memory precision associated with systems consolidation can be explained by neurogenesis-dependent reorganization of engram circuitry within the hippocampus over...

Sharing a new paper from the lab. This paper, led by Sangyoon Ko, represents a merging of two longstanding research themes in the lab-- adult neurogenesis and systems consolidation.

However, I don't think there's concluding evidence for that, possibly because it's unclear how this model can be falsified and therefore tested.

Well you posit that traces form on preestablished (or established upon memory formation) within the hippocampus, on something that may resonate with theories such as relational memory.

Last, we inhibited this activity and found that this activity was necessary to correcly decide to go to the correct reward location, but only in allocentric animals!

Then, we used miniscopes to look into the hippocampus activity in the two tasks and found that egocentric representations were less precise

Living human brain tissue used to mimic Alzheimerโ€™s in breakthrough study Exclusive: British team exposed live cells to toxic proteins to gather rare insight into how dementia develops Scientists have used living human brain tissue to mimic the early stages of Alzheimerโ€™s disease, the most common form of dementia, in a breakthrough that will accelerate the hunt for a cure. In a world first, a British team successfully exposed healthy brain tissue from living NHS patients to a toxic form of a protein linked to Alzheimerโ€™s โ€“ taken from patients who died from the disease โ€“ to show how it damages connections between brain cells in real time. Sex Redefined: The Idea of 2 Sexes Is Overly Simplistic Biologists now think there is a larger spectrum than just binary female and male

Human sex is not binary from a biological perspective โ™€๏ธโ™‚๏ธ. Female/Male - as well as XX/XY - is an incomplete model to describe sex in humans. A good read about the subject ๐Ÿ‘‡
