When I was travelling and people would ask what Bristol is like, I would tell them that every day is Talk Like A Pirate day.

In the book, Long John Silver's pub - The Spyglass - is in Bristol, which is why Robert Newton went with that accent. And like Dick Van Dyke, he didn't quite get it right. It doesn't bother me - it bothers me a lot more that young Jim Hawkins inexplicably has an American accent.

See also The Shawshank Redemption. Yes it's a great film, yes it has an uplifting ending, but there's a hell of a lot of Shawshank to get through before you get to any redemption.

Netflix currently have a murder mystery series set around Loch Ness. It looks intriguing, but if I watch it and the murderer doesn't turn out to be the Loch Ness Monster then I will be cancelling my subscription.

It honestly astonishes me how many people are completely unaware of motion smoothing being used on their TV, and literally can't see it. Which makes me wonder why TV manufacturers implemented it in the first place!
