Earlier in February we celebrated Harry Green MBE’s incredible 56 years as a #trustee with the planting of 56 #trees at #TiddesleyWood and Vale Landscape Heritage Trust’s #StockenOrchard. πŸŒ³πŸ’š

A familiar garden visitor for many of us, the bird we can see peeking through the box is a blue tit. They nest in holes in trees, but are just as happy to use nestboxes. Listen out for its trilling, 'tsee-tsee-tsee' song. 🩡🐦

It's #NationalNestboxWeek so we're keeping with the theme for today's #MondayMystery πŸͺΊ

Can you identify which feathered friend has made a home in this box?

You'd think we would all have had enough of this wet weather - not this robin! 🐦

Thanks to our colleague Ellie for reminding us how easy it is to create a bird bath in your garden that will get used even on the most rainy days. Ellie used a terracotta pot with an upturned dish on top.

Today we're taking notes from great crested grebes. From synchronized swimming dates to dramatic head-shaking dances, they don’t just fall in love - they perform it. Look out for their displays of courtship at your local wetland or lake this spring.

Happy Valentine’s Day πŸ’˜

There’s only so wet you can get…and once you’re that wet, you may as well enjoy it πŸ˜‚πŸŒ§οΈ

Thank you to all our volunteers who get out for wildlife no matter what the weather throws at them πŸ‘πŸ™

Our colleague Ion captured this lovely redpoll at Grafton Wood over the weekend. πŸͺΆβ€οΈ

So named because of the bright red patch on their forehead, redpolls, along with siskins, are our smallest finches and also among the darkest in plumage.

These comb-like structures are called lamellae and they help the birds to filter as well as to grip food they find in the water πŸ¦†

We spent a very soggy morning at the Wyre Forest last week saying thank you to our amazing roving volunteers. We chatted about oak coppicing, delved into the forest’s historic mills, and finished up with a visit to the beaver pen. 🌧️🌳

Big thanks to George from Natural England for leading the event!

It is, of course, the beautiful barn owl! Arguably one of the most beloved owls, it’s easy to see why, with its distinctive heart-shaped face and pure white feathers. Look out for them flying low over fields and hedgerows at dawn and dusk.πŸ€πŸ¦‰
