PhD student at OSU AEDE. I study AFOLU emissions reduction schemes and want to study energy. Mostly I used Twitter for politics and space and war stuff, I figure this will be much the same Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―. Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men, and less Carbon

He’s the front runner like Giuliani was the front runner everyone knows him, he’s a household name and a huge portion of the base detests him

Conservatives will literally do ethnic cleansing instead of enacting zoning reform

Always surreal to see for-profit news out there saying: it's not important, don't follow it. Go back to entertainment we don't get paid for

What an unconscionably useless man.

Poor information is an ever-present issue in democracies. Dynasties work in politics for the same reason mcdonalds works for the same reason Marvel movie work. It (theoretically) cuts down on information costs b/c you already know it

Agree they're bad, but I think more inevitable than you suggest

Won't they need both after the election in TX?

Maybe this isn’t worth worrying about (I’m broadly in support of the gerrymandering) but what happens when we have a set of politicians in office who owe their seats to Gerrymanders? Will that make a national redistricting law harder?

Obviously most important to get to that point first, though

Dessalines was bad but Louverture is a hero of history. I’m fairly convinced of this

Maybe you could even actually construct the lanes so cars don't just use them anyway!

Well that's another hole in my budget for November. It was gonna happen sooner or later though. Just gotta wait for Mike Eliason's book to hit a big sale too now.

Then why tf are you in office? Standing up to Trump is your only job until 2028. Just resign and let someone else do it if you can't

So your theory of what happened was he was genuinely opposed but couldn't stop them and they just so happened to have the exact number of votes? There's a variety of claims out here and I'm trying to figure out how they fit into a unified narrative of what happened?

I think, with Trump's unwitting help, they could even have pushed them as far as making them end the filibuster. Even though Rs are inherently afraid of that.

Time for murphy to give up his doomed designs on the white house and lead the party.

Tbf even now their applications are incredibly few and far between. Air Assault (with helicopters) is slightly better.

But anyway clearly they came up with the idea because it’s dope as hell

It’s stupid, but this article explains the difference in approaches:

Does feel like we should just tag @holz-bau.bsky.social at this point though, so he can correct my mistakes

half baked theory that this why a lot of good politicians are wife guys: the wives are funding their profoundly un-lucrative careers

I mean staff costs is less than a percent of the federal budget right? No budgetary reason we couldn’t double everyone’s pay across the board.

Political reasons abound of course

I mean the cross pollination is pretty thick in general. Irish music is as tied into Boston and NYC (and London) as Italian food is tied into NYC.

Fairytale of New York was written as a bet between McGowan and an Englishman (Costello) about NYC

NYC has a GAA! We love a diaspora folks!

But do you have a strong reason to assume we should take her performance and not Spanbergers (+10) as the indicator?

Though I think they end up in close to the same place, since there was a big gap between OH, FL, TX, IA, NE, KS, AK; and the real swing states.

All of those become close-ish tho.

That said, my experience of traveling in Ireland is that they absolutely do go for Irish folk music in a ton of bars

Could be I only hit touristy places but the range of bars I hit was broad, and stereotypes be damned, Guinness and irish folk were unavoidable anywhere I turned my head
