An AI voice assistant relies on the cloud. The hardware to facilitate that is impractical for 99% of consumers.

A light does(should) not rely on the cloud. If the light can't perform its on/off functions locally then that's a design worth banning or adding huge disclaimers on for the consumer.

I do wag my finger at the IoT ecosystem though. If data collection is built into your model, whether it be for overall cost reduction or other reasons, it shouldn't disable the primary functions of your devices if it doesn't need to.

It's important to have specialized services in place to handle a component of a large vertical stack. AWS fills a slot in that stack and is very good at it. Downtime is close to nonexistent when we expand the timeline. When I buy a computer, I don't want to create the OS from scratch.

I usually check job listings for leads on potential clients, and a listing popped up for relevant work. Investigating the source of this job ad turned into one hell of a rabbit hole.
