I'm afraid some in the nuclear industry and coal holdouts in Portugal and Spain would take issue with the third sentence in your post. For brevity, I will post it here -

Canada will no longer cover travel costs of experts it nominates to UN's climate science body | CBC News In a sudden and unexplained change from previous decades, the federal government has stopped covering the travel costs of Canadian experts volunteering for the next major global climate science assess...

This is very disappointing to see. I have some research funds to spare -- if any Canadian climate scientists lack travel funding for the IPCC, please contact me and I will try to help out.

Pod envy most likely, but have you ever considered a pod on Portugal? Decarbonising as fast if not faster than Finland, not quite as wealthy, and w/o overpriced nuclear in. the mix

An elderly holocaust survivor confronts ICE and Tom Homan.

His bravery after what he has experienced and endured shows his incredible indomitable spirit even the Nazis couldn’t crush.

Well, some people decided to do just that but found it so BORING all they could think of doing was use it to ship cars across a mile of desert somewhere. That larger dream of yours will never fly.

His exceptional intelligence if it indeed exists is now used towards pure evil deeds. I'm sure some would claim that Hitler was exceptionally intelligent. That's not the point.

Do we need to choose? I prefer not: being fairly optimistic on the technological front (although very skeptical myself of some solutions, including DAC, BECCS, CCS), but not putting all of my eggs onto tech, rather edging that bet with a fair dollop of societal change - esp in food system change

These are not done by decision makers. Not at Shell, not anywhere else. It's the same whether you're at Shell or at OECD. These are decision support systems; they inform, do not replace decisions. Whether decision makers consider them is not up to the modellers in their internal teams.

These reports are not commissioned. Oil companies have by their very nature the need to do long term scenario planning. These are scenarios, not forecasts and are therefore not an expression of Shell's "belief", rather what they conceive can happen. That said, quite progressive on the transition.

Making Sense Out of the Chaos A helpful guide to some of the worst of Trump's Day One actions

As expected, Trump’s first day in office brought chaos. Immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, and federal programs were all targeted in his first wave of executive ordersβ€”but not everything will stick. The Big Picture breaks it all down in this handy guide to Trump's most deplorable day one actions.

Only problem is that the geothermal resource is not widely available as wind and solar. Better geothermal technology may lead to exploring submarginal resources soon though.

I'd challenge that. We've hd not-so-democratic governments as COP Presidencies before. They did not perform better or worse than democracies. Think of Denmark and Copenhagen: the COP President was arrogant, cut side deals, ignored due process (yes, it is dull but important to follow process.

High forest, low deforestation regions are losing ground fastβ€”over the past decade forest loss is up 28% and six #HFLD areas lost their status. Climate finance is urgently needed to prevent deforestation, and carbon markets can help us meet the moment. 🌳🌍https://bit.ly/4fiMZf6
