They will play a key role in shaping and advancing the Centre’s work to improve perioperative care.

Congratulations Mr Sultan! He is a consultant oesophago-gastric surgeon and clinical director of upper gastro-Intestinal surgery at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, national clinical lead for upper GI cancer at NHS England and an active researcher!

Our thanks to Professor Jugdeep Dhesi and Professor Scarlett McNally for their outstanding leadership as CPOC Deputy Directors over the last six years. We are hugely grateful for all they have contributed.

Jo and Javed will officially take up post on 01 February 2026, succeeding them.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of incoming CPOC’s new Deputy Directors, Dr Jo Simpson and Mr Javed Sultan.
