I’ve not been on a school bus in years. And I’d never been on one w @melissamichelson.bsky.social & @hlw.bsky.social until tonight! Thank you @sentencingproject.bsky.social for an evening of fellowship & clips of the film “And Water Brings Tomorrow” (ashleyhunt.info/andwaterbrin...)

Where to place sensitive questions? Experiments on survey response order and measures of discriminatory attitudes
Contributing to the lit on where to place moderators in an experiment (shoutouts 🧵), @tabithabonilla.bsky.social, Genni and I consider whether items measuring prejudice are subject to unique considerations. Does asking these questions pre-treatment affect the experiment? @psrm.bsky.social

Against a more traditional informational mailer. Our trusted messenger approach increased new and updated registrations by 45% relative to the uncontacted control group, an effect which is statistically distinguishable from an impersonal approach

We worked w/ #NJISJ to test effective ways of making newly enfranchised people aware of their rights. We combine ethnographic work with organizers w/ a field test of the strategies and tactics they viewed as successful

Slideshow title: The Carceral System and Political Participation
Looking forward to presenting our work on the political behavior of incarcerated people tomorrow at CUNY! This is one of the more exciting papers I've worked on during grad school. We're also presenting findings at ASA in Chicago later this summer.

It's also very cool that @hlw.bsky.social has the presentation slot right after us. Workshop attendees are going to get a whole afternoon full of politics-of-criminalization research :)

UNC-Chapel Hill Has Delayed Tenure Votes in Most Departments This Spring
UNC-Chapel Hill trustees didn't approve tenure cases outside of health-related schools at the last two meetings.
Administrative takeover. See, they don't have to actually legislate the abolition of tenure. They can achieve the same ends once they've captured the administration, as they are currently doing at UNC, one of the largest public systems in the country:
