I will say, props to Wesley’s Shatner impression, that was pretty funny.

They seriously just said hey, let’s just replace La’an’s ENTIRE personality offscreen. Your super traumatized badass security officer? Yeah, now she’s a tango dancer who loves fun and wants to bang Spock. They have her basically panic over a drunk man with a gun she could easily disarm. #snw

Yeah, so I really did not like that episode of #SNW. The best that can be said for it is the cast seemed like they got to have a little fun. The Spock/La’an thing felt majorly shoehorned given they’ve barely spoken in the entire series up until the last episode. But more than that — La’-an:

Yeah, as I understand it, it’s not bad at giving rewrite options and adding jargon, but does not seem worth the trade off.

I literally tried to use this one time ever to reformat something and it straight up changed the study name I’d put in and added some absolute nonsense. I honestly do not get how people think this is good.

I also fully agree that the complete lack of LGBTQ relationships is embarrassing, at this point. How did you make a 1960s show seem LESS gay?!

I’ve seen the theory that La’an will get wiped from the timeline for some reason to justify how they never mention her in the Khan storyline, but if they try to make the character development that Spock just can’t handle continued loss (Michael, Pike, maybe La’an), I’m going to hate it.

I am so deeply disappointed this is where they’re still going with Spock. Both he and La’an deserve better character development. Ethan Peck does such a great Spock and they are wasting him on boring soap opera romance. It feels so deeply out of character for everything we know about him longterm.

This show was fine but needed more monsters and did NOT work continuity wise at all.

Writing feels a lot like that to me. It’s a challenge in the moment. It can be really hard. That’s part of what ultimately makes it satisfying and fulfilling. My fear is that people will default to what’s easiest in the moment and lose out on the deeper joys of doing the work.

I really hope this is true. My fear is that humans don’t actually do what’s best for us, or even what makes us feel better in the long run. We know, for example, the insane benefits of exercising on focus, mental health, physical health, etc, but because it’s tough in the moment, many don’t do it.

I will say, there are some really great, classic feeling episodes that are highly worth the watch. The lower decks crossover was delightful, and the Number One trial episodes are about as classic Trek as it gets. Generally, the show reminds me more of TOS by a long shot than Disco.

I like it well enough overall, and there’s a lot I think they get right, but it does feel a bit CWified.

Despite being pretty damn sick this past week with about a quarter of a voice, I managed to mediate yet another family conflict. I like my job for the most part but I am really pumped to do this new mediation training that starts the week after next. I think this field might really be my next step.

Like how do we go from this version of T’Pring to TOS T’Pring? She’s a million times worse if the SNW relationship happened then if Spock were just a dude she was forced betrothed to at age 7 and then peaced out into the universe.

It drives me bananas. Like yes, he did start acting closer to what I’d expect him to about halfway through the episode but like. Enough of mopey romance Spock please. TBH, the idea that he and T’ Pring had any kind of actual relationship felt deeply unbelievable, too.
