If you celebrate the β€œunder god” part of the Pledge - which was added over a half-century after its inception as a response to the β€œRed Scare,” - but ignore β€œliberty and justice for all,” I have to wonder, which god are you referring to?

Smithsonian artists and scholars respond to White House list of objectionable art A page published by the White House entitled "President Trump Is Right About the Smithsonian" lists exhibits, educational sites and more that the administration seems to take issue with.

Art is everything, our culture, our society, our very essence, it tells our stories.

Illinois is launching a first-of-its-kind legal hotline for LGBTQ+ individuals β€” Illinois Pride Connect.

As the only state in the nation that will provide free legal advice to protect the LGBTQ+ community, we'll help fight ignorance with information and cruelty with compassion.

Whether it’s freaking out about the new Cracker Barrel logo or some other bogeyman, remember this: The GOP’s nonsensical culture wars are meant to distract you from corporate corruption, worker oppression, and staggering wealth inequality.

Erasure Notebooks by Mary Ruefle August 12, 2025 – "These erasure texts range from slapstick to the absurd, from the lyrical to a wry melancholy."

β€œRuefle, who is based in VT, has been making erasures, which she illustrates with collages, almost daily since 1998. Usually working on two pages a day, she has completed more than one hundred and twenty-five erasures to date, a selection of which are now on view through September 6 at Poets House”

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

Trump vows to evict homeless from Washington, official says National Guard may be deployed Trump said he will give homeless people places to stay, "but far from the capital." The White House declined to explain what legal authority Trump would use to evict people from the District.

This is more than concerning…how much more will it take for folks to wake up to what is happening? How are there still folks who are seemingly oblivious to all of this?

Umm, if a democrat were to do something like this all hell would break loose. Does this poor excuse for a human ever even work? It seems that he’s always on a vacation on the taxpayers dime. I’m tired of my taxes going for this mess and all the rest of their crap.

Smithsonian removes Trump from impeachment exhibit in American History Museum A temporary placard, on display since 2021, described the president's historic impeachments. Officials said the exhibit was restored to an earlier version following a review of legacy content.

Under pressure from the White House, the Smithsonian censored an exhibit that mentioned Trump’s impeachments, now inaccurately suggesting to visitors that he was never impeached at all (let alone twice). www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

How a Father-Daughter Duo Changed the Course of Textile Art May and William Morris’s fascinating and complicated relationship deserves to be studied in its own right.

William and May Morris, a father-daughter pair of textile artists, were constantly engaged in lively discussions of politics, design, and often, a combination of the two, as Morris Sr. viewed an increase ofΒ respect for artisanal craft workersΒ as a key part of his socialism.

I don’t think folks know what all is in this bill. It goes beyond just Medicare and SNAP… it’s includes financial aid, the getting AND repayment. There’s so much hidden bullshit in the bill that the American Fascist Party (what I will now call the GOP since that is what they are) is cramming in.

The result in Taylor, as Sotomayor puts it, "strikes at the core premise of public schools" β€” that children of all faiths and backgrounds come together to learn about a "range of concepts and views that reflect our entire society." It is the product of a conservative supermajority whose members think of the Constitution as a compact that applies not to all Americans, but to people who look like them: wealthy, conservative Christian lawyers who do not interact with anyone other than wealthy, conservative Christian lawyers, outside of occasionally tipping a caddy at the Congressional. For them, the First Amendment does not guarantee freedom of religion. It protects their power to privilege their religion over the religions of everyone else.

The Supreme Court’s decision in the LGBTQ books case lays bare the extent to which the justices exist in a bubble. They don’t interact with anyone other than wealthy conservative Christian lawyers. The law exists to protect people like them, and no one else. ballsandstrikes.org/scotus/mahmo...

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?
