My insta post on why Richard II is my 10th favourite monarch
01.03.2025 11:29 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hufflepuff is definitely the house that would be most distressed by J K Rowlingโs behaviour on social media these days. It truly is the noblest of the houses.
20.02.2025 16:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Iโm currently reading up on late-Roman lettering and this was also their logicโฆ
15.01.2025 21:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If you are an older millennial and you donโt identify as a Hufflepuff, do you even lift (spiritually)
15.01.2025 21:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Was Wallis Simpson a 20th century Anne Boleyn?
youtu.be/DpXq2GP8Rx8?...
I donโt know why, but when I read this classic Quicksilver line in an issue of silver-age Spidey, I read it in @edidin.bsky.socialโs voice.
04.01.2025 22:20 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The King abandons the traditional Balmoral summer for a pleasure cruise of the Balkans.ย The world media goes crazy for pictures of the King and Mrs Simpson.ย The pressure begins to get too much for Wallis.

I am searching for a (living) historian who is sympathetic to Edward VIII/Duke of Windsor. Iโm struggling to find one.
Anyone come across one?
The 2nd part in our series on the Abdication crisis of 1936, containing an interview with @adriangphillips
Edward VIII ascends the throne & begins a subtle campaign to make Wallis his consort.
But even without Mrs Simpson, Edward is a worrying figure.

Like you, I read along with the pod, and I actually quite enjoyed the 12. I didnโt really understand the ending so waiting for @xplainthexmen.bsky.social to Xplain it to me.
16.12.2024 13:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The Twelve is an interesting event because it is 90% absolute nonsense, and then like 80% of the way through, Cable #76 shows up and sledgehammers you straight in the feels, and the event doesn't STOP being nonsense, but it starts feeling like nonsense with stakes.
15.12.2024 18:46 โ ๐ 71 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 1Richard III and Henry VII were both ruthless. But we donโt get the impression that they enjoyed spilling blood.
But Richard II and Henry VIII seemed to enjoy striking out at enemies, masterminding plans to maximise humiliation.
Thatโs the difference between ruthless and cruel

It's hard to imagine a better codicil to a will than that of London widow Margarett Beard from November 1664:

Language matters.
Today weโre talking about a close relative of James Tyrellโs possessing an object of Edward Vโs.
When we say it belonged to Tyrellโs brother-in-law it raises eye brows.
When we say it belonged to Tyrellโs wifeโs sisterโs husband, it all sounds quite remote
